I will be moving to NJ from the Maryland area this summer. Can anyone tell me about the Princeton area? What nearby towns are safe? I have 2 kids age 5 and 11, so I want to be in an area that has a good school system.
Princeton and most of the surrounding areas are very safe, Princeton is known for an excellent school system. The only nearby area to stay away from is Trenton. Priceton is a very expensive area and has very high taxes.

There are a number of good (and safe) school districts in the Princeton area.
Princeton, Hopewell, Robbinsville, West Windsor and Montgomery, typically, rank rather high in this area.
These districts cover a large area, so your price range and job location might factor in your decision.
There are also certain parts of Ewing and Hamilton that should be avoided, as well. Do your research. It's a nice area, but you do have to go there and see.
Princeton is expensive, but I do not know your financial situation.
I would stay with the towns mentioned above
West Windsor or Plainsboro (share schools)
Robbinsville
Montgomery
Hopewell/Pennington
Cranbury (which goes to Princeton HS)
(they are in no particular order)
I wouldn't personally live in Lawrenceville (LAWRENCE TWP ), Hamilton, or Ewing with children.
west windsor/plainsboro high school(s) there are 2 and montgomery are ranked pretty high. so is princeton high school. also, if you can afford it, there are tons of private schools nearby (hun, lawrenceville, princeton day, etc)
princeton is composed of a township (pricey estates) and a borough (includes downtown.)
