Question Employment Authiorization Document

Hi,

I am in the US on L-2 visa. I applied for my Employment Authorization Document (EAD) in September 07. The same was approved on November 27, 07, but I have still not received it. Called USCIS guys quite a few times. Reapplying will take another 3 months.... What should I do? Any advice??

Thanks,
Monika

IMO, you don't have to reapply. If I understood you correctly, your application for employment authorization was approved, but for some reason you haven't received the EAD card. Therefore, you ARE already authorized to work in the US and don't have to wait for the replacement card to start applying for jobs. Just show the USCIS approval receipt if the prospective employer asks for it; they can easily verify it online. Getting the replacement card is a separate issue; you can request a document trace (there is a special form for it); as a result, they will find out if the card was actually mailed to you or the process stopped somewhere inside the CIS. In worst case scenario, you'll have to request a duplicate. I hope this info is useful for you.

Keep calling the hotline and i they tell you to reapply, do so and make sure you mail EVERYTHING to that office by certified mail, receipt acknowledged. Also copy everything before sending any docs out.

I remember I had to get this document about 4 years ago and it took me 6 months to get it. Do not reapply. On their website, it should be the indication of the timing how long it usually takes.

I do not think you can start working when your application has been approved but there is no card yet. I was in the same situation 4 years ago. I had to stop working for 7 weeks until my card arrived. it was really stressful, but there is nothing you can do. If a company you are working / applying to is serious, they will never take anyone who does not have appropriate documents.
