Hey all, So like the title says I'm wanting to bail out of NYC for good and for many reasons.

I'm from Queens I'm about to accept a position in Cranford and wanting to rent a 1bdr Apartment for $1,250 or less also I'm wanting to be a few blocks from the train station as well that can take me to either NYP or if I can be a few walking blocks from the PATH too.

My priorities is that my car won't get broken into and also not getting mugged, I live in Queens and grew up next to the projects so I know what bad is like, Of course trying to be near it but I'll take a decent area. I would also like a nice downtown area nearby.

Give me them towns to move to.

Cranford. There are a number of apartments within walking distance of the train and you can take that to Newark in 20 minutes to PATH wherever. Roselle Park would work for you too, slightly less expensive but you'd probably have to drive to the train.

+1 to jay's recommendation, and as to the following...

...While nothing is impossible in this world, the probability of having your car broken-into or you being mugged in Cranford is incredibly low. Roselle Park is probably a bit less secure than Cranford simply because it is closer to both Elizabeth and Roselle, but the probability of being a crime victim in Roselle Park is still very low.

Simply put, outside of our gritty urban areas, NJ is an incredibly safe place to live.

Many decent towns in the area. I would look around and get a feel for what density you can tolerate. Obviously many nice areas, then certain towns feel tight, crowded to me, others more relaxed and spread out.
