Your rubber boots. We are drowning at the moment - I am assuming you will be making a "field trip" to one of your construction sites? You don't work for C,S&D?
I guess I'll add my two cents because I left NJ also...
Yes I miss it, especially being so close to NYC. I can't say I loved NJ but I did love where I lived in Atlantic Highlands. When I first moved, I was so happy about the low taxes here, the great weather, lower auto insurance etc... I'm still happy about those things but then there are the things I'm not crazy about; less diverse, no city close by, people are nice but I like the way people in NJ/NY are more direct, tons of bugs, harder to find food I like...No place is perfect, it's just a metter of what makes you happy in your life. I'm fortunate, I can fly to NJ anytime I want for free and get my fix. I admit if the taxes where lower, I would move back to Monmouth County but mainly because I miss NYC and my friends not because I think the state is so much better. I thought about staying in NJ and fighting for lower taxes but how? I had to work so many hours just to get by and I rented, forget about buying something there. I would rather not spend most of my time working and more of my time enjoying myself and having fun. I don't feel anyone is wrong to stay or go, it's just whatever makes you happy. I just couldn't accept paying the taxes in NJ, the tolls everywhere you go, the high premiums for auto insurnace etc... just because I'm told to. I don't live that way and just do things because they say I have to. I can see why people stay, there's lots of great things about NJ but for me the bad was outweighing the good and I had to go.
The other thing I have to add is I've been on City-Data a long time and have seen the South bash the North and the North bash the South. I don't think either one should say anything unless they lived in both places. They both have good and bad, as I said before. Most of what I read is so far from the truth and people don't have a clue of what they're talking about. Going to the South for a week doesn't give a person any idea of what it's like to live here. Some people in the South tend to judge base the whole North on just a couple of people they've met from there, which is also incorrect.
Here are some truths;
North - there are lots of nice people and not all rude, not everyone only cares about money, every place doesn't look like Newark.
South - there are good schools, now everyone is a religious fanatic, there are museums, theatres and cultural things to do.
Anyway, I love NJ/NJ but I also love SC for the many things it has to offer. Besides if nothing else my life has been a lot more interesting because I didn't live in the same town or state my entire life. For me, you only live once and I want to experience as much as possible.
Not sure you wanted to share that with Jersey Man - he will be hunting you down on the highways : ))))
I still have my credentials if he doesn't extend courtesy it could be a problem
