Definitely well said!! I'd give you reps, but I can't .
And you're right, FL isn't cheap anymore. I heard property tax got cut here (I don't pay heaps of attention, as I don't own, so I'm not 100% positive), and rumor has it that it will kick our sales tax up. Heard it's possible that it will go up to 10%, if that's the case That would set us at the highest in the country.
actually they are looking to put something on novembers vote that will cut property tax around 25%ish and raise sales tax 1%....its all in the beginning stages and all a lot of talking and idea slinging right now.

that concept was just floated yesterday, but the real issue is that as long as government is going to fund so many social programs the money needs to be raised to fund them, the only way to really cut taxes is to cut government spending and no politician on either side has the cajones to stand up to all the varied special interests and just make the cuts
I hear some of your points, however to not do anything is worse. I may be a dreamer but at some point we have to take action. And if I remember correctly (and you can correct me if I'm wrong, forgive me it's been a while since I left school) this country was founded because our founding fathers had enough w/ the Taxation w/o representation. Now we may be represented, but not very well represented. Also, I never voted for any of the clowns that you have mentioned.
Alex, I hear what your saying but as Bob Kovacs has said you will be most likely dead if you think NJ will change. This state has been changing into a more liberal and democratic state do to sheer numbers in the cities and recent immigration trends. Many tax paying conservative minded people have fled to greener pastures. As they leave we have a different group of people coming in. It's a numbers thing. The outlying areas cannot and will not overcome the mentality of bigger govt. and more handouts. As in Abbott school funding that was ordered by the NJ Supreme court, school construction money being pissed away. I made a post a while back about the Hoboken Police chief making OVER 210,000 and being forced out with a pension of 150K and a buyout of over 800K. The taxpayers of Hoboken have to pay the buyout money. Just think about it.Thats a 160 homes taxed at 5K going to one guy with money for just being forced out of his job. In the private sector he would have been fired. Now when you have to pay all the people that work for the towns and cities and schools your talking big bucks. There should not be cops and firefighters and superintendants and administrators of schools making 200-300K. The people in the cities vote 95 percent democratic and it will not ever change. It's there meal ticket and the unions meal ticket. We vote with our own pockets in mind not others. I'm being honest and just using a couple of examples. I could write about ten pages of ineffiences about this state but as you know I'll be wasting my time.
My dear friends, drastic times require drastic measures. As I'm sure many of you who have done the math in your own lives and make your own cuts in your personal finances, we MUST force our govt, local, state & federal to do the same. come to think of it, Socialism is looking pretty good right now (well, except for lack of freedom) <---sarcasm btw
Actually, SOL really starts for towns less than 5000 people. Despite the fact that police, fire, EMS, and DPW make up approximately 11% of the budget. I foresee magical drastic reductions in my taxes there

I've heard both 1%-3%...who knows. Hopefully I'll be gone before I find out. Is it only 25%, though? I've been hearing everywhere, including media, that they want to get rid of it all together.
I know I'll probably get flamed for this, especially since prop. taxes in NJ are so high - but if you don't want to pay the property tax on the place, either down size for a home with smaller taxes, move somewhere in the state where property taxes are less than the current residing area, or don't buy at all.
Keep in mind, I don't necessarily agree with property taxes - and I especially disagree with the rising property taxes...but there has to be SOME sort of property taxing (or attempting to balance different taxes all together).
