My husband just took a job with a company located in Englewood Cliffs, and we will be relocating at the end of the school year from western NY. We have one son who will be a sophomore in high school next year. As you can imagine, this will be a big change for him in the middle of high school! Can anyone recommend some public high schools in Bergen County that have a decent academic reputation but without the extreme pressure? He also has some minor special needs, so that type of environment would not be a good fit. We are looking for a high school that is a little more low-key, friendly and welcoming. Then, perhaps we’ll find a house in that school’s area. I have no clue if this is the right way to tackle house hunting, but we’re going to try it! Our housing budget is $700k-800k if that helps. By the way, he is a quiet guy, not into athletics....more creative and artistic. Thank you!

Tenafly, Cresskill, Demarest are all great towns that come to mind and are an easy commute from your husbands job in Englewood Cliffs. They all have excellent schools and would make for a smooth transition for your son, even if he has minor special needs or prefers a more quieter, low key environment. Actually many schools are excellent, esp in northern Bergen County. Best of luck on your move.
