And the footbridges, there are a lot. I remember in Junior High, every day crossing the footbridge near Hillside Ave School. The "bad kids" would smoke Marlboros under the bridge. I actually wasn't too much of a bad kid until I reached high school Last time I walked that footbridge, years ago, there was still a big heart with "I Love Tommy C" (except they wrote my full name) written in whiteout in bubbly letters on the wood of the bridge. I never figured out who wrote that...

Ah, good times growing up.
I did not grow up there so I wouldn't know, but thanks for the tips about making sure my kid doesn't do stuff like smoking under the bridge!

Hey, which footbridge is that? They just replaced or repaired the one that goes from Baldwin Ct to High St, so your "I Love" marks may not have survived

Here's the new one (couldn't get close to it because of repair work)...looks like it's now all-metal like the one in Crane Parkway.

Navesink and Sandy Hook were closer to where I grew up so I spent a lot of time in both places. Great pics.

The footbridges look familiar. There's a park with a footbridge near Mendall Ave.

You're talking about the Crane Parkway Footbridge..it's also all-metal now, and unfortunately, it looks like everytime a footbridge is replaced, they replace the wooden ones with this generic steel/metal structure:

I'm sure the things are now much stronger and will last much longer, but the wooden ones seem to have more character....

It's ashame that "character" can't be built into the metal/steel structures.

OH NO! That sucks. Plus, what did they do, clear cut a lot of those woods around there? It used to be more wooded. I hate change...

Well, that may be the wrong bridge, but afaik the only three nearby footbridges to Hillside are high street and crane parkway, and BOTH are now metal. The Mohawk Drive footbridge below is also nearby, close to that big pond near GSP 136...that one is still wood, and it's got moss growing on the wood lol...

Also, this was taken earlier this year, so the lack of leaves around may make you think trees have been cut?

Big Bend Pond at dusk....
