If I have to sum it up in one word, the difference is INCOME.

Yuppies love to consume. They have expensive taste. Hipsters have “obscure” taste. Yuppies want the best name brands, while hipsters want the brands you have never heard of. They measure their coolness capital in two completely different ways. Yuppies desire to be 1%’ers. Hipsters HATE the 1%. Yuppies were likely in a fraternity or a sorority. Hipsters despise that whole culture.

Yuppie and Hipster are synonymous in the same way back in the '70s, ROTC was synonymous with Burnout.
