For most healthy people, the "call of nature" comes early in the morning. Sometimes that call can be overwhelming and what to do if there are no public "facilities" nearby? The culprit should have had at the very least a "poop scooper" nearby to erase evidence of the indiscretion.
Does Holmdel HS have a lap pool and if so is there early morning open swimming? Is the principal a swimming enthusiast in addition to a jogging enthusiast?
I foresee a "Baby Ruth" story or joke here somewhere:
only an evil tyrant would think that they have the right to ruin someone's life over something so minor. is that why you like being a teacher? "oh i get to destroy people's lives and teach lessons."
i think a warning is fine. you could even tell him he is no longer welcome on the property. if you want to fine him, whatever. but that is all it should be at this point, the world doesnt need to know and an example doesnt need to be made out of him.
whoever decided to charge him with some kind of "lewd act" charge deserves to burn in hell.
I wouldn’t say this is minor, but I think I’m with you that his career doesn’t need to be destroyed over this...
HOWEVER, had this person been a teacher, custodian, or a security guard in the school district instead, you could bet dollars to doughnuts that they would immediately be dismissed/have tenure charges certified, and have their careers destroyed for life.
And the supervisors, principals, and Super Nintendo wouldn’t even blink an eye at that.

i dont know the process of punishment but i find it hard to believe a full time teacher would be seriously penalized for this. im not an expert on tenure but that would make it even more unlikely. the real problem is all the attention it has received and that builds up some expectation of punishment. people need to learn how to separate something being gross from something being substantial. its just some doody on the grass.
its just a turd on the ground outside. a lot like dog poop or any other poop. a warning is fine and then escalate if it continues.
Again, this wasn't a one time thing....he was doing it numerous times as either a prank or some kind of get even thing. Either way, his way of thinking should make anyone question this headcase being in charge of a school system or having a highly placed job in it.
And again....I'm sure you wouldn't be so benevolent if it was you finding human feces on your lawn everyday.
For those who want to excuse this guy's obviously intentional acts, here is the latest update on the story, courtesy of NJ.com:
Was there a bathroom available at the field?
Yep. According to the Holmdel High School athletic department, there is a porta-potty available at the school’s track and field facility year-round. Considering that there were feces being left at the track on a daily basis, the alleged pooper had to know there was a better option than the ground. This would suggest intent on his part. By a similar measure, the track is located very close to a wooded area, where someone doing their business, while still not legal, wouldn't nearly be as problematic.
what a joke. nobody is getting stick from this guys turds.
the right thing to do would be to tell him to stop. fine the guy if you want to get some revenue for the local blue mafia. arresting him and potentially costing him his job is so silly.
everything that you are offended by doesnt have to result in ruining someone else's life. sure, its nasty what he did but its really not a big deal.
It wouldn't have been a big deal if he would have gone back and cleaned up after himself like people do after their dogs- nobody would have even known- but he CHOSE to leave it for some underling to either step in or clean up. He was too good to clean up after himself. Good God- now his wife can't even show her face at the local PTO meeting or in the pickup line at their kids school. This dipsh!t deserves everything he gets. He ruined HER life- his most definitely should be ruined as well.

The guy crapped on the athletic field daily. Human feces is a vector for all sort of disease ranging from gross to deadly. Kids played, fell down, got skinned knees, touched the grass than touched their faces or mouths, every day. Yes, biologically, it is a "big deal".
Meanwhile this man KNEW that defecating in public is wrong, and continued to do it daily. He also likely would have punished a student for doing exactly what he did, DAILY.

This is not true. Human feces carry many more illnesses to humans than dog, goose or other feces. Human feces spread disease, this is why we have sanitation systems.
