Gas prices & your vacation
No surprise to hear theat by the summer gas will go way up. Will the price of gas be a factor in your plans for a summer vacation? I will still go to the shore but I think the idea we had to drive to Carolina is out.

At $4.00/gallon, I'm sure most will be staying close to home. This is really going to add to the recessed economy if no one ventures "down the shore". College kids depend on vacationers to help pay their tuition fees.

I'm thinking about having a toll booth installed at the end of my driveway and charging for beach (pool) passes... give folks the feeling of heading to the beach : )

I probably have a different opinion from whatever was posted here so far.
I do not know what you do for living, but as for me, I work too hard and having 4 weeks vacation, can usually take only two. We do not go fancy places with 5* hotels, just becuse we do not like it. But when it comes to choosing vacation, our consideration will never be Euro against dollar or high gas prices. We try to save everyday - not drinking Starbacks for $3 etc. Vacation is vacation. You might not have this opportunity again because of job, family etc. We went to Italy in January and drove 3,000 km over there. Tolls are expensive, roads are expensive. So what?? I doubt I will get 2+ weeks anytime soon. Also, those kind of vacations I see as encouragment for myself to work hard so I can go to next one. Maybe, it is because we are not big vacation spenders. We like camping, hiking, skiing etc.

That's a great outlook, Tulpan. I'm the same way. Life is too short to not live it to the fullest. But then again - different strokes for different folks. For some; starbucks, designer clothes, and a living room on wheels brings happiness. For people like us - it's the travel bug.

I totally agree with you. Plus, it is different for one family in different times - different priorities. I have never been a big spender so it helps a lot. I do not need two closets of clothes. I do not need jewerly. Maybe I am wierd - maybe. I like good stuff and at the same time do not want to spend $6K for watch I like. I do not need watch anyway - there are clocks every there now: laptop, cell, blackberry. This money will go to towards travel / vacation time. I do buy good desiner clothes, but I do not have tons of them -no need to. I have to buys suits since need to wear them at work. Weekends - jeans and Tshirt . We have a lot of sport equipment, but that's what we like to do in life to relax.

Whether hitting the road or staying local, is not where you go but what you do w/ that time off that matters. I've done the travelling abroad, the road trips and staying put and it didn't matter to me where I was but who I was with and if I was having a good time. I'm at a point in my life that I prefer simplicity.

Well, there's always Swartswood State park around here in Newton.
