Elizabeth is a shell of its former self. It was a great place to grow up in the 80s and 90s, but now it's in tatters. It started going down hill in the early 2000s due to subprime, but mostly Bollwage's decision to knock down of the projects and sprinkle the undesirables throughout the city. The Jews, Italians, Irish and Cubans began moving out, and the illegals began moving in. Now it's disgusting. Gangs are everywhere, there are murders on a daily basis (just read the paper) and urban decay abounds. I know it's happening in a lot of cities in NJ, but I think it's more magnified in Elizabeth, because unlike other cities, Elizabeth was actually a nice place to live not too long ago.

Actually thats not what ive seen. Lots of Construction in DT , new Housing going up and retail.....the City seems to be on the rebound. Although Linden and Rahway are leaps and bounds ahead of Elizabeth when it comes to Urban Renewal.
