Can anybody tell me where I need to go to put the name of the family daycare business I'm starting on the books? I'm looking for this to be a "my name t/a business name". Any help is appreciated.

You may need an attorney - or your accountant, to file the necessary paperwork for you. You have to file with the State not the town in which your business will be located. I can send you a couple of referrals if you would like?
You record the DBA at the county clerk's office in New Brunswick. I believe they're on Bernard (sp?) Street.
Are you sure you want to have a daycare business that's just a sole proprietorship, though? If you ever get sued for anything, someone's going to end up owning your house and everything else you own. As sue-happy as people are, I'd want the protection of an LCC or corporation- especially when you're dealing with something as sensitive as people's kids.

I agree with Bob - LLC is the way to go. You can now file as a single owner under LLC if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks-that would be great.
