Frankly, I think it's mostly the little flags you put on the hood of the car that give you that feeling.

This thread has definitely gone off topic.

Let's bring it back, because it's been really nice to have everyone's input and hear different experiences.

I think this right here is why so many of us have left NJ. Believe me, I'd love for it go in the right direction.

South Jersey offers a similar lifestyle to some parts of the South IMHO

Which sums up things nicely IMHO.

For most persons it is best to have made your money "up north", then move down south. This is why so many retirees, seniors or others who already have funds move down there.

OTOH for younger persons and or others that must work moving down south can be a shock. You just aren't going to make "New York" (New Jersey, Connecticut, etc...) money down there, even for same exact job.

Of course the cost of living is lower in south, but that is relative and may or may not solve everyone's problems.

Case in point major companies that relocate from NY/NJ area to south often roll one of two ways. Key persons, management and others normally either won't move and or demand to keep "NYC money" in terms of compensation packages. Lower level employees these days are often told they are welcomed to make the move and will keep their jobs but at local (south) pay scale. Not surprisingly not everyone takes this offer up....

It also isn't surprising that many companies/businesses from NY/NJ area that move to south often end up coming right back up north again after a period of years.
