Default Would you ask your coworker for money he owes?

I ordered group lunch today for some coworkers and one of them hasn't paid me for it. Just wondering if I should ask for the money - it's about $8-9.

Would you ask for it and how does one do it tactfully?

The way we handle that type of situation here in the office is that we rotate, today I pay, tomorrow someone else pays.

Since it is such a low number, I would not make a big deal about it. I would ask about it once in joking conversation and see what happens but there is no reason to make a huge deal out of it. I would just take it as a learned experience and not order for that specific co-worker again.

Tactfully? How about "Hey- where's your money for lunch?"

Why is there even a question here? He asked to participate in the lunch, and he hasn't paid- I don't see what the problem is.

That's a good suggestion if you order with the same people and from comparable places... some days we have only 3 ppl ordering and on others we have 6. It's also tough when the total order can be anything from $30-70. It's hard to keep track!

It's a great idea though.

Yes, ask for it...if you feel sheepish, and you shouldn't, email them...

There shouldn't be any question at all. Every one else paid? There was no miscommunication, where he thought you were buying? So, walk to his desk and tell him, "Hey Jim, you're my last stop. Everyone else has paid me for lunch. Do you need me to change a large bill, or do you have it exact?"

Well I paid for the delivery and bring back the food from the lobby. Not everyone pays when they get their lunch. Some eat first and forget all about it afterwards. :P

Lesson learned here is NOT to volunteer to pay first.

Only problem and every office has one there is always ONE that tries to skate out...sorry but $9 for someone else's lunch I didn't offer to pay is a big deal
