Not happy with the school district that my son goes to and were wondering how to get him into another school district. We have some reservations about his placement in basic studies where the school district had placed him. Had brought that to the school's attention and asked that he be removed.......well here we are in April and he's in the same program. We believe he isn't getting a good education. Any advice out there? Thanks

what grade is he in?
I take it he does not have an IEP? Is this what you're looking to get?
I'm not clear on if the basic studies is not good enough or if it's too difficult.

more than likely it would not happen, until the HS level there is little choice in what government school your kid must attend

you may be able to pay non resident tuition in another district. call around to districts you're interested in and ask.

The reason we have 560+ school districts (along with the highest taxes) in NJ is because everytown believes they know how to run the schools better than the town next door.
Sad but true, the rich towns have the better schools and unless you live in one of the wealthy towns with the better schools you are stuck with what you got.
You could try private schools or you could try to enroll in a school in a better rated town(district) but if they let you in you will have to pay seperate tuition and also provide transportation.

One of the biggest reasons for high taxes is 'Home Rule" and it is not just the schools but all the twp. provided services.

Now if we could get down to just 21 school districts we might see lower taxes and the opportunity to enroll our kids in the schools of choice.

pay tuition for a government school? why? if you are going to pay tuition you might as well get quality for your money and quality education is rare in a government school

the so called rich towns have better schools for sure, but it's not because of money, the state pumps millions upon millions of dollars into the poorer towns and all that money doesn't change the results. some reasons the so called rich towns schools perform better is because of more parental involvement and the kids coming from a better environment.

No argument here, we know the welfare system does not produce too many scholars.

You only really have two choices and both involve digging into your pocket. Move to a very rich area with excellent schools (and yes there are some "government" schools that are excellent) and pay super high taxes. Or, pay to go to a private school.

What level school are they in? I know someone who was successful in getting his kid moved from one elementary school (that they hated) to another one in the same school district but not what where their house was zoned to go.
