I'm having an extremely difficult time finding a house here in NJ. I've been here in NJ house hunting this past week (Sussex then expanded to Warren then even went up in price) and am very discouraged. I made two offers on two separate houses and was ready to make a third on another but it didn't pan out once the realtor got further info for me. None of the three worked out and I can't seem to find anything else right now. It seems like we've been through all the listings and are just not coming up with anything else to look through. I'm thrilled at being back in NJ and was determined to get a house this trip so it's very disappointing to go all the way back down South without a house. I've already stayed an extra couple of days extending my stay and my search in hopes of finding a house. The real estate agent asked me if I was going to extend my stay further now. She has a point - I'm already here and it's cheaper and more convenient than making the 750 mile trip again in another month. The problem is, I think we've exhausted the listings in the areas I'm interested in so if I stay, what would I look at? I just don't know. Would there be that much of a change in say 4-6 weeks from now? I'd like to come back up in late May but am getting so discouraged. I've made two trips now - Decemember and now April - and have gotten nowhere. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places? Any suggestions? We've looked every single day for the past week - something doesn't seem to be right or it seems like I would have something by now? It doesn't seem like it should be this difficult.

Did those houses sell or did they just not accept your offer?

The first house had community restrictions that were not in the disclosure and I opted not to accept the counter offer. That house had been on the market for a very long time. With the other house, I just about got the offer in and within about two hours, my agent called to tell me the seller's agent told her that the seller had already accepted a different offer earlier that day which we didnt know about. With the third house, it was a bank approval house with a 4-6 week turn around time. I didn't want to wait that long and get involved with that.

It's 1,500 miles round trip for me. I did it in December and again now in April. I can't keep taking time off (plus the expense of the trip) to keep coming up here too look but it seems I have no choice. I would prefer to stay a few extra days and look now but the problem is it seems as if there's nothing left that we didn't look at. I'm not sure where to expand my search to at this point. I really thought I'd find something this trip and that would put me in good shape for moving over the summer. I'm not sure how/where to expand my search right now or what I'd look at if I did stay the extra few days. If I come back up in May, I'm wondering if there will be that much more on the market to make it worth my while to come back up. It's very discouraging.

Since you're already looking way out in Sussex and Warren Counties why not cross the border and look into North Eastern PA. You'll find your money can buy a lot more out there than here.

My bad - I said Warren; I meant Morris. We did look some on gsmls.com at Warren but it was too far out from where I needed/wanted to be. Same with Sussex. I saw some beautiful homes in Sussex - one way out at the other end of Wantage but it was too far from where I need to be. I expanded my search into Morris (I don't know why I said Warren??? ) and that's where I made the offers.

You may have said this on a previous thread...but what is your price range and where will you be working? Perhaps we can suggest some new towns to check out.
