Default Devils in Newark ... "The Rock"

From watching the games, I've heard a lot about the new arena, and it's nothing but good things. How many of you have been there? If I were going to go to a game, how close are the hotels? I know what Newark is like, and it scares the crap out of me. Does Newark have any hotels in a decent area?

Also - I heard about the imprint of Scott Stevens on the stairs - was that the old arena, or the new one? Thanks!

there is one hotel downtown close to the arena, the rest of the decent hotels are out by the airport, unless there is a game that evening there is very little to do there

There are clubs in the area - if you park in a monitored lot, near the clubs, its ok. Lots of fun too.

Guitar Bar, QXT's, XL, etc.

I don't know if you're joking or not....

The Devils just moved there this year, Prudential built an arena, right by Penn Station. The area from Penn to the arena is heavily guarded by police on game nights.

Since the post is about hockey, I'm not going too OT....

You have no idea how embarrassed I was when the Gorton's Fisherman was on one of my hats. I'm still happy they went back to the old logo.

I've been to many games at the Rock this year. First of all, between the signage in Penn Station itself and the huge flashing arrow beacons on the street, Stevie Wonder could find the arena on his own. It's two blocks up and one block over from the station. There are mounted police, foot patrols, cars, etc... It's a little overkill in my opinion, but if that's what it takes for folks to "feel" safe, so be it. Go to a game, you'll be impressed.

I wish the old tradition of winning went along with the old logo. Mike Milbury sunk that team...and it is still falling. The wrong Goalies were traded, and the wrong goalie was given a long-term (REALLY long term) deal.

I went to the Devils game in late Dec. when they hosted the Sabres. (I was home for the holidays.) I couldn't believe it was a sellout! The Devils won in a shootout, which was really exciting (the first SO I've ever seen live). The arena is really nice, but parking is really expensive. I'll post a couple pictures here when I get a chance. No, I did not know about the Scott Stevens imprint.

Let's go Devils (and beat those Rangers)!
