Default Adventures of Stuyvesant Ave ( Trenton )

Well, I would like to take the time to discuss my awesome time on Stuyvesant Ave a week or so ago. I live in North Trenton and as I was sitting around my place bored one night, I had the idea to drive around the city like usual. But this time I thought about checking out Stuyvesant... So I head over to the West Ward... Id say it's about 1 in the morning. I get to the infamous road and lock my car doors. Im heading down the road and this section isn't so bad yet. ( Stuyvesant actually starts in Ewing township where it's really a nice street, and the closer you get to the intersection with Parkside Ave, the worse it gets. ) So I finally cross the light at Parkside Ave intersection and as I'm driving a few seconds I notice one guy walking up to the side of the road and staring into my car as I drive by. Okay, nothing too crazy, people in Trenton have a weird habit of doing that. I continue on when I hear someone yell at the top of his lungs, "HEEEEYY!" I look over at a side street I'm passing and some guy in a heavy jacket is moving rather fast, looking straight at me, and heading right for my car! I hit the gas and get out of there. Another block or two down I notice a bunch of gang members hanging out on the corner, all wearing the same colors... I continue forward. Another guy tries waving me over to him thinking Im there to buy drugs. A few others cursing at me as I keep driving, and somebody tries throwing something at the car. Looking in my rearview mirror I see the guy who screamed HEY, still walking way back, looking straight at my car!... After all this I'm finally near the end of the dreaded road when I get to a stop sign. A prostitute walking over to me really really drunk, waving at me and walking towards the car. She takes a couple of more steps and trips and falls to the ground! She tries to get back up and starts stumbling all over the place as.... A Trenton cop pulls onto the road, notices her, and just keeps driving past her! I thought that was hilarious... In any other town she is going to be in trouble... But in Trenton its just a minor thing and the cops have more to worry about... like the gang members coming after my car.

Well, that's about it. All in all I would say the trip was quite interesting, but I don't see myself heading back to that side of town anytime soon!

And you shouldn't.

Trenton sucks. The Stephanie Plum novels won't save it - no matter what. Neither will my stupid realtor who keeps trying to get me to buy row houses in Trenton that have been boarded up for YEARS.

Apparently you have the ability to get on a computer, type...and make sense. Why are you in Trenton at large? Are you in the 'Berg?

Actually, no. I'm in North Trenton-polish section. Not all of Trenton is bad. My town is rather quiet... I would say if just my section of the city was it's own area, I would compare it to a town like Linden, NJ. Blue collar, not a whole lot of crime, a working town basically. The Berg still has nice sections and areas like Mill Hill, Hiltonia, and Glen Afton are really nice spots. But a lot of it needs to be cleaned up... and Stuyvesant may not even be the worst street. Perry St, Walnut etc. are right up there... not very nice.

Sounds like fun!! You know its fun to see the seedy side of life, I do this too not at night but in the day sometimes drive around the crappy areas and look. I find it interesting. Are you old enough to remember good old NY. Guy yelling smoke smoke, cars left all over the Henry Hudson, prostitutes all over by lincoln tunnel, its had a quality to it, now its all metrosexuals and gays and rich!!!! Good for you , just go in the day!!!

Scotch Rd. goes from Parkway Ave. in Trenton, through Ewing to Washington Crossing Rd. in Pennington.

Hey Jacked! That cop should have pulled YOU over for being a "suspicious character" in that part of town!

Thanks. Would you know if this area has the same element of people that JackedInPrinceton described? My daughter wants to attend a school over there and we haven't checked out the area as of yet.

All of Scotch Rd is pretty nice. It goes from Pennington to Ewing. At Ewing it turns into Parkway Ave like the previous poster said. Where it runs into Parkway is a ways of from the Trenton border, near Firkins Tavern in Ewing.

JIP, were you practicing for when you get on the job. It sounded like deja vu for me reading about your midnight drive. Ive been taking that drive for 30 years now in another city and its getting old. You get used to it after a couple of days.
