Towards the end of this month, I will be officially making my very 1st property purchase. The property is located in a condominium community in Jamesburg NJ. The condo is well within my price range. I will be moving from Union County NJ, to Jamesburg NJ. I took a drive around the neighborhood couple of times. Seems very nice. Taxes are ok. The NYC express bus is on Applegarth Rd, which is ok. I work in NYC. I also have a car. I understand that Jamesburg is part of Monroe township. From the looks of it, there seems to be a lot of retirement communities in Monroe township. Would someone who currently live or who has lived Jamesburg spill any tea about this area? Thanks

Your understanding is incorrect.
Jamesburg is a municipality in its own right, and it actually split from Monroe Township in the late 19th Century.

It's a small town, seems nice. I drive through it when visiting my sister in Monroe (in one of those retirement communities.) I actually pass a sign that says "Welcome to Monroe" then a sign that says, "Welcome to Jamesburg" then another sign that says "Welcome to Monroe" again.

I always associated "Jamesburg" with what is now called The New Jersey Training School, but used to be known as Jamesburg juvenile detention center. Twenty-five years ago I was on a jury for a murder trial, and some of the kids involved who were testifying against the actual murderers were incarcerated at Jamesburg.

But, I just looked it up, and that's actually located in Monroe. Anyway, they are going to close it.

Good luck with your new place.
