hey fella jersey-ians. it's been way too long since we've been living back there. im valarie, married to matt and we've got 3 kiddos. matt decided to move out here to vegas 5 years ago and after proposing, i followed along. now we've been here since 2003 and married since 2004. im from AC/ventnor/galloway/absecon etc and my hubby is from vineland. we're working on getting back home. i read these topics of our jersey slang and sayings and im home sick! it was nice to get away though, and see that there's life beyond jersey. see what the world has to offer. but im slowly losing my jersey 'style'. i have to speak a little more properly so that others can understand me and i have had to tune down the 'tude a bit - us jersey girls are BRUTAL! i didn't see that until i got away! haha but boy does that accent and attitude show when im repermanding the kids or goin' off about something - it's how everyone knows to back away from the crazy lady LOL

ok i ranted long enough. i now have a place to come get a *fix* when im feeling lonely without jersey and have a few laughs at our own expense!

Hey- we moved from NJ to Vegas in 94, and spent 5 years there before moving back for family reasons (my dad was getting sick). It's not an easy move to make- believe me. Leaving that brand new house with granite counters and 10' ceilings, and buying a 50 y/o piece of crap that needed to be gutted (for the same price, mind you, and 3x the taxes) just about made my CA-born wife want to puke....lol.

And I fully understand the NJ 'tude difference- we laugh about it often now that we're in GA. My sister (who somehow sounds like she grew up in Brooklyn) was down here a few weeks ago, and hearing her get wound up about things and "going Jersey" on her kids was hilarious.

I bookmarked that thread on Jersey-isms myself. I think I packed a couple of boxes quicker based on that thread alone.
