Does anybody remember a large store that used to be called "Nationals"? I remember going there as a kid with my mom sometimes. I don't remember what town it was in (it was either Garfield, Passaic, or Lodi).

Man Oh Man, I haven't eaten a White Manna burger since my high school days at Bergen Tech in Hackensack.
Can you refresh my memory exactly where it's at, that was the 70's and like the 60's if you were there then you don't remember. LOL
Is it near the submarine parked in the Hackensack River?

But beyond that, I miss The Rink in Bergenfield. KRS ONE, Redman, Naught By Nature, Salt-N-Peppa, DJ Ron G, DJ S&S, ect. The Rink was great. Now it's a SEARS!

358 River St, across from the YMCA.
I make all of those NJ hecklers eat their words when I bring them to White Manna. It's always a sweet experience for me! The place looks like a dump, but once they eat the burgers, they understand.
White Manna was voted one of the 10 best burgers in America by....... Maxim, YM? One of those mens magazines a few years ago.

National Family stores
National's was located in a part of South Hackensack that was sandwiched between Garfield, Wallington, and Lodi (the cemetary by the Felician College) The only thing in that part of South Hackensack was Nationals, next door was Tenda Brand (a food processor yuck), about 8 houses, the parking lot for Curtis Wrights and the good old Brookside lounge. The South Hackensack police would park across the street from the Brookside so they could get a peak of the go go girls whenever a patron came or left, cheap thrills!
National's was actually a collection of vendors under one roof. My brother worked in the sporting goods department. If there's one thing you got to remember is the sloping cement floors in there.
Speaking of floors I remember the noisey hard wood floors in Packards & Bambergers in Hackensack. Does anybody know what the 2 big radio antenas on top were for? They made the building look like something from WW 2. Also how did the packard name get connected to the bamberger name?

How about the Route 1 Flea Market? You could smell the roasted nuts as soon as you walked to the door. All the vendors yelling $1, $1, $1!

This is too funny!!
The Route 1 Market - there was a guy that used to sit right by the front door and collect for Deborah Hospital - I can still hear his voice in my mind. ANYWAY, my dh is from WV and we went to the Market one day and there was the guy. My dh asked me "where's the Bora Bora Hospital?". I thought I'd fall down laughing right there. I still tease him about it.

Memories from Plainfield...
Tepper's department store (main store in Plainfield, branch store at Short Hills Mall)
Goerke's department store (main store in Elizabeth, branch store in Plainfield), which became Steinbach
the Strand theater
the New Liberty theater
the Surprise Store
Lazaar's
Plainfield Trust State National Bank
Forever Changes head shop
Frontier Diner
old streetcar tracks on Front Street
getting milk delivered by Woodbrook-Middlesex Dairy
and elsewhere...
the Holly Park section of South Plainfield: Lou's Market, Herm's restaurant, the Coral Lounge restaurant, Stewart's root beer.
the Chippery fish-and-chips chain - my friend worked at the one in South Plainfield; another was in Fanwood; I'm pretty sure there were more.
Snuffy's Steak House before it became Pantagis.
I think Bowcraft is still around; how about the Scotchwood Diner?
Anyone remember Robert Hall stores for boy's & men's suits?

This is a really special memory for me, as I would stay with my Mom-mom and Pop-pop on weekends and they always took me there.
There was also a farm in Voorhees, with cows and an ice cream parlor, but for the life of me I can't remember the name. Cowtown something, maybe? Anybody?

Is Hank's Franks still around? Used to love going there as a kid. Is that where we used to get hot dogs with potato topping? Or was that Fat Mike's? Can't find potato dogs anywhere anymore.

My grandfather used to be the manager of Old Wagon Farm and I was looking online to see if anyone had pictures. All we have is the pumpkin family. If you have any, please let me know.
