Keansburg, NJ
We are looking at some houses in that area.. Can anyone tell me how they like it? We have little kids. Is it a good area for little kids / families?
Is there any area to avoid in Keansburg? We are looking at a house over by Joseph C Carusso School. Thanks!

We just had two recent threads about Keansburg which I asked the mods to combine. Let me see if I can find it.
Cheers,

do yourself a favor and avoid keansburg, it is known as the armpit of the area for many reasons like drugs, crime, a high concentration of low income types and summertime crowds, there are nicer areas very close by

Moving to Keansburg
I moved to Keansburg 6 years ago, and I have to tell you that alot of things I heard about KEANSBURG were rumors. . .Just like all surrounding towns we have our low, medium and high income families. . .The crime in Keansburg is no worse than that of our surrounding areas. . .Keansburg is a very small town and does not generate the same revenue like in the surrounding areas, therefore, our improvements are slow, but coming. . .Joseph C. Caruso School area is right next door to me, and I found that there are nice families in KEANSBURG, too. . .Good Luck with you new home!

Keansburg for the most part isn't very nice..there's some nice parts, and I wouldn't exactly say it's a slum, but it is definitely the worst town in the area, considering it's surrounded by a lot of very nice towns, like Holmdel, Hazlet, Middletown...ect. You can do much better in those towns then in Keansburg.
They are making some improvements and it's better now then it was 10, even 5 years ago, but it's still not really a desirable place to live, especially for that area. Very run-down and depressing.

How can you compare Keansburg to Holmdel, Middletown and Hazlet.
Why not say you can do better in Rumson also.

he can say it because all those towns border the 'burg and all those towns have much better sections than anything that could be found in the 'burg.
the 'burg is the armpit of the area, always has been and unless there is a radical change in people there it always will be.
People who live there are either trapped because of their economic situation, are naive and don't know that they can do better or they choose to trade money for quality of life. for whatever reason they are there, they will say almost anything to delude themselves and try to justify living there.
Bottom line: if looking for a place to live and can afford middletown, hazlet, holmdel, and other surrounding towns like keyport union beach, highlands, do yourself a favor give those places a good look and avoid moving to the 'burg.

I would think that if the original poster could have afforded someplace other than the Burg, he wouldn't have mentioned thinking about moving there in the first place.
