For the first time ever, I received a notice in the mail stating I can renew my DL by mail. All I had to do was fill out the small form, enclose a check for $24, and mail it out. Has anyone else had experience doing this? If so, is the process quick getting your renewed DL in the mail? There was also a question on the back of the form regarding being familiar with CDL rules. It was the only one I skipped, since CDL didnt apply to me. I assume that was the right thing to do. Anyway, just hoping they process my DL renewal by mail just as easy as they process the registration renewals.
BTW, my wife was not so lucky and had to go in person to the Springfield, NJ office. She got it taken care of in about an hour, but told me the staff were very rude and robotic. They should clean house and hire more pleasant people.

Yes, I got this and did it and it was a fairly quick turnaround to get the new license. I forget exactly how long. It was earlier this year. My new license doesn't expire until 2023.
How far in advance (of the license expiration date) do they send these notices? I know that one can renew one's license in person starting at 6-months before expiration, but.....
I've never gotten such a notice, and I've had to renew in person every single time (always in December, and not related to my birthday month). I'm hoping MAYBE this year I'll get a notice, but so far I have not
(and it's less than 6 months from expiration).
JT222, they send notifications out about 2- 3 months before your current one expires. Therefore, if yours expires in Oct, you should get a notice this month in the mail.
I believe you can only do it once by mail - your next renewal will require a trip and a new pic, because NJ is finally going to the "Real ID" federal standard by Oct. (which will likely require an in-person renewal).
Ok, I mailed my check and the small form out on 8/13, I noticed they did process my check last Monday 8/19, but still no new license in the mail. Is it too soon to worry? It has almost been two weeks since I sent out my payment.

Same with me. I have had to renew in person every time (I've had a NJ license for over 20 years). I don't know what the deal is. Maybe they only let a certain percentage of people renew online or by mail each year? I have one year left on my current license. I assume I will have to go back for an in person renewal next summer for the "Real ID" upgrade.
