Burlington City or Bordentown City (Haddonfield, Audubon: to rent, house, neighborhood)

Does anyone know much about these towns? My husband and I live further south in Audubon, and are looking to move into Burlington County. We love the small town feel, and the main streets. As Haddonfield is way to expensive, these towns seem promising. If anyone could shed some light on the good, the bad and the ugly, it would be most appreciated.

I moved to Burlington City nearly two months ago and I really like it. Easy commute to Philadelphia where I work (and as a native NY'er, I don't drive or own a car). Nice people, clean streets and it appears that the city officials really care about this city. I live in the Historic London neighborhood.

Did you purchase a home or are you renting? I'm thinking it might be better to rent first, to make sure we really like the area, and then try to buy something. Prices seem to rising everywhere, but hopefully we'll be able to find a reasonably priced home (even if its a fixer-upper) in the Historic District.

Are there any things that you don't like about the area?

I purchased my home -- and it's definitely a fixer-upper! :-)

The only thing I don't like about the area is that there aren't many businesses in the 'downtown' area. I understand that new businesses are planning to move in over the next year or two, but for right now, there are only a few. It appears that everyone here goes to the malls or shopping centers on Rte 130 or 541 rather than shopping in town. It would be a much nicer area if there were more stores and restaurants in town.

I moved to Bordentown City 4 years ago. I lived in an apt. first and fell in love with it, so I bought a house there. The people are very friendly and it's easy to meet people and get involved. The downtown section has restaurants and shops, along with banks, post office, barber shop, etc. so people are out walking around, doing their errands. I bought a 200-year-old house, mint condition, great neighbors, for under $200k. Only complaint is that taxes are high.

Burlington City has some good prospects for revitalization. There are new shops moving in and a better standard of commerce than what has been there in the past twenty years or so. Bordentown is already there, and is a desirable community to live in for many people, which affects the property values, making them slightly higher.

One thing to keep in mind if you are planning a family, Bordentown also has a better public school district. Ask your realtor for details.

Bordentown is a great place to live. My wife and I have lived in the town for 2 years and love it. Its a great place to shop, eat, walk and discover history. The town is very dog friendly. The location is excellent for commuting located close to 130, 206, NJ Turnpike and NJ Transit Lines. The prices of homes continue to rise but are still very affordable at the moment! The older generation is giving way to a younger revitalizing group of people. It truly is a small town with a lot of charm!
