) - Repeals provision allowing vehicles to enter and proceed through stop intersection without stopping twice On April 7, 2008, Governor Corzine signed A-1291 into law as P.L. 2008 c.9. The new law is effective June 6, 2008. Attached is a copy of the law for your information. The new law repeals N.J.S.A. 39:4-145, which allows one or more vehicles entering a stop intersection, following directly in line with another vehicle that has come to a complete stop, to proceed without again coming to a complete stop before entering the stop intersection. With the repeal N.J.S.A. 39:4-145 the provisions of N.J.S.A. 39:4-144 now apply in all situations where a driver enters a stop intersection. Specifically, a driver is prohibited from entering upon or crossing an intersecting street marked with a "stop" sign unless the driver has first brought the vehicle to a complete stop at a point within five feet of the nearest crosswalk or stop line marked upon the pavement at the near side of the intersecting street. The driver is permitted to proceed only after yielding the right of way to all traffic on the intersecting street.
failure to stop....I do this every day at one street I cross..traffic is only coming one way so if the car in front of me is stopped..nothing coming I move when he does..now every car will have to stop again
I'm going to need to write me a note for the dash board
If its a stop sign, you should be stopping. If you generally can just move on ahead without risk, then it shouldn't be a stop sign, it should be a yield.

I don't see the issue...
Because the idiots in this state have stop signs where they should have yield signs
this one part of Bloomfield Ave will now be backed up to 46
This just another transparent attempt to gather more funds....there's goingto be many many of this little insignificant new opertunities to increase the cash flow. It's all part of the shell game Trenton plays.

Ok, so the idiots should be written to about how horrible it is, or they will simply find out how horrible it is when everyone stops, and it gets backed up, and people complain about the traffic.
I don't think the meaning of "stop" needs to change because of a poorly laid out road with the wrong signs.
I don't get it. How can you place some sort of rule of what should be common sense and already in place. Stop look and go. I don't get it.
ok the way it worked..
I come off of Rt 46 onto bloomfield Ave
I need to cross to the other side of Bloomfield Ave..traffic at this point is one direction....the guy in front of me comes to a complete stop at the stop sign..nothing is coming, he moves and I follow right behind him...now with the revision even though I can plainly see no oncoming traffic I must stop again before I can cross over or risk a ticket for $85 plus two points
it would never occur to me NOT to stop again and look when it's my turn. i've never "taken advantage" of someone else's "stoppage" . this sounds like a seinfeld episode.
I must stop again before I can cross over or risk a ticket for $85 plus two points
BINGO !!!!
That's what it's all about...
