Where to live if working in Vineland, NJ
My husband is considering a job in a hospital in Vineland, NJ.
We were told we can live in Mullica Hill. But I wanted to find out if there are any other places where we can live considering factors like safety, school district, cost of house, shopping near by etc.
thanks.

Mullica hill is a quiet place. As far as schools, when my son was small I was going to enroll him in The Friends School there. It was very hands on and small. I worked in Bridgeton and commuted to cape may because the area is kinda tough around the hospital. It depends on how old your child/children are.

deptford is about 30mins from vineland (in the opposite direction of traffic which is a plus) . it has a few really quiet communities where you wouldn't realize how close the mall is. we have the deptford mall, pathmark, and other strip malls within a mile i think. philadelphia is 20mins away and atlantic city is 45. it is also close to 295 and walt whitman bridge. I had asked someone who lives in our community about schools before moving and she said the schools were pretty good (though i cannot vouch for that since i dont have kids). it is really affordable for townhomes and condos, unsure about single family homes. apparently property taxes are lower in this county compared to others in NJ. it is very safe. i love it here even though I travel 1 hour to work in NE PA. good luck!

It Depends...
It depends on what kind of neighborhood you are looking for. For the last rural areas in the state, you can live in the southern portion of Cumberland County. Some parts of Millville, which is right next to Vineland, can be nice.
Other recommendations here are good as well. Actually, we live in Buena Vista Twp., Atlantic County, which uses the Vineland post office. It's a nice area but we are being priced out of it. Vineland is in a good location in that you can look in various counties--Cumberland, Atlantic, Gloucester, Camden (county, not city!) and find really nice places without having to travel all that far.
Route 55 has made traveling in South Jersey a lot easier. So really you have a lot of choices, if you have the money for a decent property.

Again, it depends on what you're looking for....
Vineland is a definate city....if you want to live in a city....consider Vineland (but along with city living comes some drawbacks.......for instance........DEFINATELY check out the crime rate......sorry, it's not too good! (not totally horrible (let's face it - it's no Camden), but I still wouldn't want to live there!). If you have children, you might want to check out the surrounding areas. For a more country/city mix, you might want to check out Woodstown, your family would LOVE living there (I did for years - and still miss it!) Good schools, good people, and not too far from Vineland..........another good one.......South Harrison Township (Great schools, great people, trust me - you and your family will love it!, you're VERY close to Mullica Hill with lots of Antique Shops, not to mention St. Joe's church - although Father Bryce isn't there anymore, they say there's someone just as good! (maybe 10 minutes) and only about 20-30 minutes from the mall in Deptford, but your not in the "city". Another place is Elk Township. Even the serriff is such a nice guy - your talking REAL FAMILY people here! Again only about 10 minutes to Mullica Hill, maybe 20-30 minutes from the mall (Deptford). It all basically depends on what your looking for. Let me know if I can be of anymore help. I lived down there for most of my life (14-30)

I spent a goodly time of my summers in Vineland where my grandparents lived from the 60's to the 90's.
Vineland still has something affordable for everyone - farmettes for horses (my family had 4 acres at the corner of Landis and 55 w/ deer in the back yard), victorian houses, woods, modern houses, a nice section right around the hospital, BUT.. yes, the crime rate has gone up. It's not scary, like Camden, but more like South Florida , ie. Homestead and Florida City. Precautions would include, fencing with an electric gate (if you buy some acreage), grillwork on your front door and windows, an alarmed car, and a noisy dog or parrot. I have met some very bright students from the Vineland public school system, but it doesn't have the bells and whistles the public schools in Cherry Hill or Depford Twp. have (I went to the Wallingford - Swarthmore Public schools in Pa). Mullica Hill is very pleasant and they even have a wonderful Quaker school where one of my childhood friends worked. Depford Township is very nice too. Cherry Hill is a pleasant suburb to grow up in, but the taxes are out of this world. Rosenhayn is nice if you like a more woodsy locale (next to Parvin).
The other localities have reasonably low crime with neighborhood watches. If you have more than 2 acres you can discharge a gun on your property. Even if you might not be predisposed to keep a shot gun for philosophical reasons, the law gives troublemakers reason to pause and reconsider tresspassing.

If you are looking for an area with great school systems, low crime, and affordable taxes. You may want to consider Upper Township in Cape May County. If you can do a 40 min commute, its probably worth it.
