Hello All Please help ASAP,

My name is Viraj from NJ area. I am living in NJ last year. I recently visited India in May for 5 weeks and got my Indian Driving Licence on 29th August. I got a valid one-year International driving permit from Indian DMV from that Date. I was in the USA for about 3 Years. Recently on 12th July, I got a small car accident where I made a mistake. There was no damage caused but I got a ticket for the careless driving.

I was already applied for the driving licences in NJ at January and I got the Drivers permit which was expired on the date 1st July with my current EAD card. I failed the road test at once and then I went to India for vacation I applied for the STEM extension and waiting for a new EAD card

Now today I appeared in the court for Careless driving and the court said that you need to pay fine $85 and 2 points or $435 for no points.

Now I want to ask questions did I violates the rules? If I plead guilty does that affect my New driving licence means any problems to get a New NJ driving licences?

What should I do Now?

" the court said that you need to pay fine $85 and 2 points or $435 for no points",,,
You should look up details whether you can have points on a new license and how many.
If you pay the higher fee that is a quick no points deal NJ offers but only something like once very 5 years.
In NJ that counts as zero points.

Insurance may still charge you a higher fee, some will and some wont. You could claim you were not moving since the ticket is obstructing traffic, some care, some don't.

An international driving permit is *not* a replacement for a driving license. The only purpose of it is for translation purposes to show which class of vehicle one may drive; eg. Motorcycles, tractors, trucks of a certain weight.

For example a person driving on a Japanese or Chinese driving license and producing it to a British, French or American traffic police officer wouldn’t have a clue what it means, so the IDP just serves as a translation tool.

I’m British (although later took out US Citizenship) and lived in Singapore for a few years. When I relocated from there to the US I went down to the Singapore Automobile Association with my Singapore driving license, photo and fee and they gave me an International Driving Permit on the spot. When I went to take the test for my New Jersey license they weren’t interested in seeing my IDP (as the Singapore license was in English, I just got the IDP ‘just in case’ as it was a foreign license).

You should have arranged for a New Jersey driving test and license within 30 days of taking up residence in the State.
