I agree with all the great things everyone said about NJ.

Also, I don't have to pump my own gas. Love that.

I also like having no smoking when I eat out. I ate out in another state recently, and not only did they think I was going to pump my own gas, they wanted me to sit in a smoke filled restaurant.

I spent 20 years of my life growing up in Jersey and wish I could move back their.I currently live in florida for the past 5 years and can't wait to get out of FLA. Jersey really is the type of place you need to be born and raised to understand it. Well saying that hear are the reasons that I left NJ in the first place -Weather taxes and family. And the main reasons that I want to move back to NJ -weather, seasons, family, higher paying jobs, mts, NYC, Atlantic City, PIZZA

Bottom line is that while NJ is very expensive it's a great place to experience diverse activities. Where else can you go skiing, then to Atlantic City and end up spending the night in the city that never sleeps.

Default and there is Great Wolf with inside water ride near NJ

Very true. during my job hunting trip to NJ, I was also pointed to a wonderful place called Great Wolf at PA but very close to NJ, so we stayed one night there, and while outside is snowing, the inside is 85 degree and we are taking Water Ride indoors!! Amazing! So, we could Skii in the morning and had water ride in the evening, then, you know what? there was an outlet right there that open midnight!!! So, then we went shopping at 2am to 5am!! Crazy! even get on CBS TV that night!

Then the following night we already in Nintendo next to Rockfeller Center ... and back to this brand new wonderful Hampton Suites at South Plainfield hotel before checking out this wonderful condo complex called Traditions!

So, you are right, the beauty of NJ is that it has PA, NY, and may be CT and DE and MD nearby, so close that you can do lots of things in a day or two...

When you're smack in the middle of NJ...you can be an hour from NYC, 45 minutes from Philly, a half hour from the beach and 45 minutes from the mountains--theres not too many other states that offer such a diverse experience.

We don't have to pump our own gas.

We have great Italian food and real bagels and pizza.

A decent selection of nightlife spots.

Great malls.

A lot of diverse and open minded people in comparison to some other areas of the country.

This is very true! Yesterday we drove to Edison Hollow South and park the car there and walk over to Edison Train Station to take NJ Transit to Newark (20 min), then PATH to 9th St (25 min), we were in NYC! so easy! Then we visit NYU, mentioned by some posting here, and went to Regal Union Square watch "Curse of Golden Flowers" that only show in NYC and the "Pursue of Happyness" and of course check out Uniqlo HQ (Japenese clothes so crowd) and SARA (Spain clothes) and check out two Barnes & Noble. On the way back from 14th St took PATH back.

I suddenly realize if I live at Edison Hollow South, I am, in fact, living at New York City !!! A guy met at train station told me that he moved to Edison from Queens NY because even Subway 7 would take over one hour to Manhattan.

Default We don't have to pump our own gas.

This is very handy! and my brother said there are only 2 states that "full service" is a mandate. NJ is one and the other one is Oregan!

Why is that? he told me that almost all gas stations in NJ are own or managed by Indian/Pakistanian ... and they got lots of workers from outside the country to serve, so the cost is very low.

He also said, but when he talked to all these people every time he got gas, they not just work here, some was in Japan for one year before come to here for another year, some will go to Europe ...etc. but one thing they are very sure is that they will work very hard for a few years and will be back home buy big house and retire like a king!

Smile Food, Food, food

Ok, I miss the food in N.J., especially the pizza, no place else has pizza like N.J. N.J. has the best corn, tomatoes, pizza, Italian food and bread!!!!! The people, the wit, jobs pay better. People are more sincere in N.J., maybe more assertive/aggressive but you know where you stand.

Cost of living is way too high in N.J., especially the property taxes& the cost of decent housing.
Weather is not too good, but better then some.
I am now living in Arizona, ok we have near perfect weather all year, except for the summer, its brutal.
Arizona has blue skies, glorious sunsets, real mountains, desert landscapes, mt. landscapes, we get snow also we are home to the Grand Canyon, if you like cold weather and skiing, you can go to northern Arizona. Only natural thing we don't have is an ocean, lol. But we are an hour by air to California if you need an ocean fix.
Bad thing is that too many are moving here, so developmet is going wild and destroying the beauty of the state at an alarming rate.
No state or place is perfect.
Visit different states to see what you like.

Default new jersey is the best

I love NYC, but if you have a family the city is not the best place to be in my opinion. I grew up in jersey and most of my best friends are from nj. i am proud to be from nj. kids that grew up in manhattan have too many problems, especially the very rich ones. jersey people are more real than most other states. bergen county is very nice, and not the stereotypical tacky nj that most people think of. in fact that is true for parts of middle and south jersey as well, all depends on the area. princeton is gorgeous. cape may is beyond adorable. couldn't do the whole west coast thing, not my scene, too flaky for me. the south and mid-west are not diverse enough for me. jersey is just perfect or the worst, depends on the area. i like the ethnic diversity, the good schools, the great food-especially italian, asian, middle eastern, jewish and of course nothing beats a jersey diner. for me it is the nyc area. new york is the only city in america that competes with the great cities of the world like paris, london, tokyo, etc. long island is not for me, similar to nj but too tacky. westchester is nice in new york state though, gotta say it rivals nj but maybe a bit too snobby, and connecticut don't really know enough about to judge. rhode island is gorgeous but too far for nyc.

I miss the Boardwalks in Long Branch and Belmar in the summer. What I don't miss is our $1,500 a month mortage that we would have had to pay for the next 20 years if we didn't come to Texas. I'm making half of what I used to make in Jersey but in about a year and a half since I've been here in Keller,Tx I saved close to $30,000 in mortage payments. You can't compare no mortage payment to $1,500 a month. No mortage payment and a brand new 2,100 sq. ft. house is a better senario.

[quote=Rapture;222570]Good things about NJ........
1. close to NYC
2. great food
3. diverse
4. beaches
5. great little quaint towns for shopping
6. friendly people (that's my experience)
7. boardwalks
8. mountains close enough to drive for skiing
9. casinos
10. change of seasons

End Quote

Also:

Definitely no better Italian food than here
Also close to Philly, Atlantic City
Bruce Springsteen
Bon Jovi
Zeppoles
Streetwise people
Giants
Devils
Yankees
Plenty of weird folklore and areas with urban legends
easy access to highways from almost anywhere in nj
malls
tight knit families and friends who stick together
Rutgers
Seton Hall
Princeton
surrounded by city, mountains AND beaches (how many people get all 3 ?)

Other than what I've listed along with Rapture's list, can't think of much else off the top of my head.
If I do, I'll post it.
