That place is in East Rutherford, right? I'm going to assume they are not subject to Bergen County blue laws and will be open on Sundays.

Yea they are in Bergen County, but being that its 60% entertainment only the retail shops will be effected. Everything else is that mall will definitely be open on Sundays. The place should be awesome but i’m curious as to how the transportation in and out of there will be for the first few months with concerts and football going on.

The traffic will be awful there whenever there's a Giants/Jets game. Can't wait until holiday season shopping + Met Life football game all happening at the same time.

It’s too close to some ghetto towns and I fear it will be run down and turn into Newport mall 2.0 in short order if enforcement isn’t in place.

Is Newport Mall that bad? I was there several times and thought it was way nicer than Woodbridge or Jersey Gardens. I am excited about American Dream opening, and hopefully it will meet my expectations. They should also put in a sportsbook and casino there too. I also cant wait to see which restaurants and bar/grills it will have.

When I lived in JC in the mid-2000's that mall was notorious for fights and shoplifting. On several occasions I saw security guards chasing people through the mall. I don't know if things have changed recently.

I don't think it changed all that much, weekdays is filled with workers but Fridays and weekends it's more or less the same. Probably worse on Fri nights. I went several months ago on a Fri night and wife says let's turn around and leave. It was just too much for our family.

American Dream won't cause Carmegeddon. Previous predictions of Carmegeddons failed to come to pass, including the Pulaski Skyway shutdown and the 405 closure in Los Angeles. Both were term Carmegeddons and traffic congestion was lighter than normal as travelers are savvy at making adjustments and plenty of alternate travel routes exist. Bloomberg, usually an informative source, did a lousy job with its article.

Newport Centre is a successful shopping mall. Revenue continues to grow, reaching a record in 2018 - this is not the case for many malls. Macy's, a retailer that is closing hundreds of stores, renewed its lease last year, evidence that retailers are optimistic about the future of the property. Many successful malls are overrun with teenagers on Friday nights and weekends. Newport isn't different.
