I've lived in Central NJ all my life and have never heard that Lyme disease is a problem here. After a quick Google search I'm convinced I'll be fine considering the rest of the state is higher

+1
I have lived in Central NJ since 1996, I frequently hike in wilderness areas, and I have never been infected with Lyme disease. Only once in that period of time have I had an embedded tick, but I removed it w/in a few hours, and I did not suffer an infection of any kind.

Lyme disease happens here, but most tick bites don't result in Lyme disease, and most Lyme disease is curable. To have it get to the stage that there are chronic symptoms is unusual.

To avoid Central Jersey for fear of chronic Lyme disease symptoms is ridiculous.
