Currently live in NYC. Have a job offer at Morristown medical center but don't want to leave the immediate nyc area. I have an s/o who lacks a car so having them in an area with PATH and light rail is amazing. Was wondering how bad the commute from the West side of jc (journal square) to Morristown medical center area is by car? I'd have to be there by 6-6:30 am and depart to go back home around probably like 4:30 or 5 most days. Doable? should I buy a parking space in JC to make that less of a headache? Google maps is saying 35 mins in morning and 1 hr on average in evening. To me this is tolerable but if we are looking at something significantly worse that could be an issue. Would the area around the Newark path train be better?

That guesstimate sends about right to me. You could also consider having a car parked near the Harrison PATH station since that's close to I 280, within blocks.

Not familiar with current parking situations I did a similar commute in the 1980s.

Your work start time is good and you will avoid traffic in the am, but the evening commute will be another story as 287 north will be stop and go and 280 gets backed up by Newark and the Jersey City traffic. I would say a hour going home at around 4:30 to 5 will be on a good day and will most likely take longer most days. The good news is that only your ride home will be traffic filled. I think it is a doable commute.
