When I was a kid--in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn--in the '50s, there was no such thing as Mischief Night.
Similarly, when we moved to Bayonne in '56, there was no such thing as Mischief Night.
In fact, I never heard of the concept until I began teaching in Woodbridge Township, in 1969.
While I have observed some of this Tomfoolery over the years since then, I haven't seen any Mischief Night frolics in Central NJ for several years.
It was a big thing when I was a teenager (mid 90's). I don't hear much talk about it now. It wasn't just throwing toilet paper on houses... it was throwing eggs (sometimes FROZEN eggs) at strangers on the street. And if someone double dog dared you, at a cop car. We were some bad kids back then.

More of something from the white, suburban 80s/90s.
I definitely remember it, but never went out for it.
These days, throwing an egg at somebody's car or front door could cost you some serious $ if you get caught. Especially with the way people are about their cars.
So, you could go toilet paper some trees, but ... meh.
Didnt see anything in the Morris County - NYC route. Pretty sad, was hoping to see some toilet papered trees at least.
