I find most taxis in NJ rip you off royally. It's a very big problem around here where we have a lot of bars. People don't want to pay the absolutely outrageous taxi rates (sometimes $30-40 to take you less than 2 miles away) and they drive drunk.

I've tried talking to some local politicians about establishing set rates like in NYC, but nobody has seemed to want to run with it.

The Palisades, that should have been 25 tops.
You did NOT get ripped off. They are the standard rates (by law). Just call and ask. $5 anywhere in hoboken is an artificial price that the cabbies have to live in. Of course it depends on where in Weehawken. But what people forget is that you are really paying for the cabbie to travel both ways. A Hoboken cab cannot pick up a passenger in Weehawken or Palisdes. So they have to be compensated for that.

I take taxis between Hoboken and Weehawken all the time. The price is $10 to $12 dollars, plus tip.

The trip between the towns can be as short as a few blocks and as long as 4 miles, so a range of $8 to $20 plus tip seems fair to me.

Why not call a few cab companies and ask? In tagging your question onto an old thread, you will get a lot of people answering the OP rather than you, not realizing it's an old thread.
