I took a taxi in the middle of the night from hoboken path to the palisades .. and was charged $40....this other guy riding with me got chaarged $25 to weehawkeen. did we get ripped off?
Any time a taxi picks up from a train station or airport there is a built in add on fee.
For example, (10 years ago) when I used to take a cab from my home to my job just outside the airport they would charge me $15. If I called the same cab company to take me from my home to the airport terminal it would be $20. If I took an airport cab home from the airport it would be $30. The distance from my job at the time to the airport terminal was less than 1/2 mile. Total distance from my home to the airport was 5 miles.
Also, some taxi companies add a $5-$10 for going into bad parts of a town.
It's absurd how much they charge you from airports to parts of Jersey. When I came back from vacation recently, I was told it would cost us $55 from Newark to Hoboken. It's a 15 minutes ride to Hoboken!
So the cab driver is making $55 in half an hour! Ok, granted he has to pay for the medallion or pay his company, but still! I don't even get paid 55 for 1 hour of work! Forget half an hour!
I called several cab companies in Hoboken and they would pick me up for $25-30. Lesson learned, when you land at the airport always call a local cab company of the destination you're heading to and have them pick you up instead.
Oh and $25 to Weehawken is steep! It's like 5 minutes away from Hoboken!
You got ripped off. At the Hoboken station all the cabs line up and they will take you anywhere in Hoboken for 5 dollars, but after that, it's anyone's guess. 25 to Weehawken is outrageous...should have been 10-15 tops.

Terminal A is worse than B & C because it's run by Elizabeth Cab Co.
I meander around baggage claim and wait for one of the Town Car guys to ask me for a ride. I can usually get them down to 35 back to the Boken.

Good idea.
I've used a few different cab companies while there (basically, the town car people), and have learned my lesson to stick with the tried and true. The guy I use is incredibly pleasant (and VERY thankful when receiving a tip), and charges 40.00 from close the the West Orange/Livingston border to EWR (cheaper than most places I've found - and then I throw in a tip [not to mention, again, much friendlier - save for one company I used when I first arrived in NJ - who asked me at the baggage claim. Some woman and I split the fare, and while it was a fun ride, I got ripped off for a fare split - she paid 30 or 40, and I paid 40 + tip, but I didn't know any better/hadn't learned about the guy I use now) and vice-versa from the airport to the town. He's based out of East Orange, has a very nicely maintained and clean vehicle (Lincoln), and takes major CC's, too.
about what would it cost to go from Elizabeth, NJ to Hoboken, NJ? I am planning a business trip up in which I would like to run into Hoboken.
