Default Commuting to New York: want to move to a NJ town outside NYC

Does anyone know any nice/ really safe towns outside of NYC (maybe 30-45 minutes outside). My husband and I are perhaps thinking of moving outside NYC in the next year or so. We would be renting an apartment.

Thanks!

we are looking for apartments around $1550. We are people who really like restaurants, art, music, cafes etc. Now we'll be ok with a town that is just 'ok' if it's really close to NYC. but the farther out we go, the more to do we'd like around us.

Jersey City is an old city with a new facade. We face NYC and are developing our own lovely skyline. There are hundreds of new apartments being built/renovated throughout the city at a variety of prices.

How about Metuchen? It's about a 45 min. commute and the train goes right into NY's Penn Station.

There are many past threads praising Metuchen for you to check.

Good luck!

I think you would enjoy Westfield or Cranford if you're looking for ambiance. I know of some 2 bedroom apartments that are available in that price range.

Montclair is definetly a great place to live with plenty of it's own culture. It diverse in every aspect and has two train stations that will get you into Manhattan in under 45 minutes. The rent is reasonable and the houses are big, so if you rent the floor of a house you will have plenty of space. I lived there for two years and plan on moving back. Good luck.
