these are not reasons not too look at the house of your dreams. I have a great friend who lives in Pompton Lakes, his kids are good kids not into drugs, they dont flood, and no problems with pollution. Its a cute town, located well off 287 , I certainly would not rule it out.

Drugs in schools. Unfortunately everywhere. Ridgewood of all places has a big challenge with drugs, to which a blind eye is conveniently placed. Drug problems have more to do with the parent/child relationship, than the area's challenge. A drug problem can be very easily averted by cultivating a trusting relationship with your kids and being open with them on all aspects of the issue.
All listings in the GSMLS and NJMLS should state whether a house is in a flood zone or not. If it does not, don't assume that the house isn't in a fllod zone. Flood maps are easily accessible by realtors who know their stuff.
The well, if there is indeed a well on the property, must be tested by the OWNER, as per NJ law. The owner must provide the results to the buyer.
Good luck!

its still not Paterson, come on mary its not that bad. Yes Mexicans are a problem but no different than anywhere else. I guess you really do not like it. I find it ok, some areas home owners take pride. Personally Mary, where you and I live its kinda more iffy as far as the homes. I mean we could have a great house, but next to use could be a wreck. I have seen more dumpy houses where you and I live. Granted we have no mexicans but P. L. , I think its a fine town!!! I know several people there!! Plus Mary we do not need more people clogging up route 23 to get to work!!!! That town is definately could go either way right now. It could be the next yuppie NYC town (they are trying to put in a commuter train) or it could go to the Mexicans. WHich I dont know, however if they put in the train, your property value will hit the roof and here comes the NYC yuppies!!! So lets not bash it completely. Too add, mary I know you said you lived there so maybe your perceptions are different and may be correct so this is not a bash to you. I just think if you find the right area and house PL is not a bad town.

Well, thanks for the input, I am certainly not looking there anymore. We don't have any illegal Mexicans where I live now. However, growing up in Rockland County, Route 59 is loaded with them. I thought the taxes were about $5,000 for a house with a lot size of a postage stamp. Still, driving through there it looked very quaint. Well, guess will still have to keep looking.............thanks for all the information.
