Default Irvington, NJ

We all know that Irvington is one of the worst cities in NJ but I was not aware of these stats, crime is 6X average NJ, murder rate 8x NJ average.
I would like to hear the reasons why anybody would choose to live in this craphole

"The city still has a violent crime rate six times higher than New Jersey overall and a murder rate eight times higher than statewide statistics. Irvington has a higher crime rate than Camden and is more dangerous, but since it has a population fewer than 75,000, it couldn't be ranked as the most dangerous city in the nation. One year in the early 2000s, Irvington was officially named the "Murder Capital of America" due to its very high murder rate. Irvington is known for its very high crime rate. In 2005, it was determined to have the highest crime rate for a U.S. city with a population between 40,000 and 60,000 people

I have an 85 year old great-aunt who lives on Clinton Avenue in Irvington. She's lived there since the 1970's and claims that no one has ever bothered her and she doesn't mind living there. Her husband died a few years ago and she has no children. She has one niece who takes her to doctor appointments and friends who will take her food shopping and to church. Why is she still there? I really don't know. Probably because she's too old to start over somewhere new. It could be for money reasons, too. I used to take my mom to visit her, and I would constantly be looking out the window to make sure my car was still out front - I hated going there. I have not been to visit her since my mom died and have no intention of going back - it's a scary place.

the crime rate in Irvington is beyond terrible but what non-Irvington residents dont realize or just dont know is that nearly 80%-90% of the violent crime in Irvington is concentrated to a certain area. That area is along the border of Newark, 20th St, 21st St, 22nd St, Ellis Ave, 18th Ave, Grove St, reason being is Newark is heavily populated with "blood" gang members & just 1-2 blocks away in that area of Irvington is "crip" gang territory. living so close to each other these gang members "bump heads" constantly there is always somekind of shooting, stabbing, killing & whatever else in that area. This area is so bad they had to put a State Police staion over there to patrol. many of the streets are blocked off from thru traffic over there also but it doesnt stop the violence one bit

you have do it by per 100,000 or else it isn't a fair comparison. Newark has over 200,000 people, Irvington has 60,000-- big difference.

in 2007 newark had 104 murders according to city-data. per 100,000 people though, that's only 37 murders. in 2007 Irvington had 23 member according to city-data. but per 100,000 that's almost 40 murders in Irvington. so if Newark and Irvington were the same size in terms of population, Irvington would actually have more murders. in reality though, Newark has a lot more murders than Irvington but then again Newark has a lot more people. do you see how it's unfair to just compare the raw numbers?

Also Newark has lots more people filtering in and out of the city (people work there, appointments, business dealings, etc).

No one goes to Irvington

Per capita Irvington and Camden are a lot worse. I wouldn't be surprised if EO is worse too.
