I graduated from NJIT in 98 with a BArch. Back then, it was a great school and I feel like for the money, you couldn't beat it. I can't speak of the school now, but from what I've heard, it's still a solid program. I think the school in general has seen tremendous growth this past decade so I'm wanting to go back and just walk around.
Just don't expect a fat salary as an architect! You can make a good living, but it's not like people might expect. Make sure you start the IDP process so you can sit for the exam(s) ASAP.
Good luck!

My nephew tried it there - it's a very hard program. I don't know what exact program he was doing but it was something condensed to 5 years. They told the freshman straight out that they would be weeding out as many of them as possible. It seems like an easy place to slip between the cracks. It's an excellent program if you can make it but it's expensive. So really look around, talk to people and be sure.

What about Stevens? Or is it Stephens ; )) I hear that they have a great program as well... if they are still in existance.

I can't comment on individual programs, because I don't know, but this is about the school itself.
Steven's is still in existence.
I met Hal Raveché who is the Dean of Steven's and his wife Liz Raveché is a pathologist at UMDNJ. UMDNJ, NJIT and Rutgers will (one day) be one big institution and still it won't compare to the program that Steven's run.
Don't get me wrong, NJIT has an excellent program and either one would be phenomenal, but hearing from the horses mouth, I think that Steven's is slightly better.
it's like someone comparing Harvard to Yale and Princeton. They're all excellent, competitive schools and whatever choice you make between the two, will be a good one. It's a win/win situation with whichever one you go to.

Just to clarify something...
NJIT and Princeton are the only accredited Masters of Architecture programs in the state. If you are talking undergraduate, then NJIT is the ONLY school with an accredited program. Stevens, to my knowledge, has no architectural classes....or Rutgers for that matter.
Yes, it is a VERY difficult program. Many people may not realize that Architecture is one of the most time-consuming and challenging fields of study out there. You will spend MANY "all-nighters" in your design studio. Have fun!

It should be mentioned that this does not stop once you graduate. Architects spend many hours late at night sending me emails. Kind of bothersome actually - don't send your consultants emails at 9:30pm!
