Hello All,

I have been apartment hunting. Currently living in NYC, South Bronx. There is an one bedroom apartment available around Avenue A in Bayonne. How safe is the area? Seems so isolated on the map, but wondering if anyone is familiar with the area there. Thanks

It's an "okay", blue-collar neighborhood. Not particularly attractive, but--for an urban area, it's pretty safe.

We used to live in the bronx and Bayonne is a tea party compared to, say, hunts point or morisania. bayonne is sort of like a hick town in pennsylvania in a geographically urban area. it's really, really quiet and people stay in after dark except to go to gregg park or to walk their dogs. you don't get that big city, anonymous feeling. the restaurants rot, though. plus, a woman should be careful walking alone on the side streets or avoid doing so after dark. I would suggest that women and kids purchase a sabrered.com device, which is relatively cheap, so that they can press a button which will release an earshattering alarm-like noise and/or a noise resembling an imaginary SWAT team entering the area.
