I went to pay my property taxes today. Walk into the tax office, and noticed a bowl of lollipops at the counter. Taped to the bowl was a sign that said:

"These lollipops were not paid for with your property taxes. "

I started to laugh and the tax collector said "Oh...you'd be surprised the comments we got, that's why the sign is there!" I said "No, honestly, I'd believe it" (all the while thinking of this board ). The tax collector paid for them out of her own pocket.

So, if you ever need a lollipop, stop by the Washington Twsp tax office and help yourself to a non-taxpayer-funded treat.

I would pay property taxes late as well. It's not easy walking into a tax office and giving up a limb or one of your children. I'd try to hold it off as long as possible.

silly girl. i have until the 15th. i used to bring it in on the 1st or a day or two before consistantly until one of the tax collectors said "You DO know you have until the 15th ,right?" (said in that "you dumb a**" voice, LOL). Now I consolidate my trips to that area and bring it in *whenever* (but before the 15th).

i don't mess with taxes and the US Postal Service. i feel better handing it in in person, and getting the stamp on the back of the bill.

**waiting for CuCullin to chime in with automatic payment** LOL

LOL..CuCullin is a sitting duck! These youngins have way too much faith in automated bill paying... I'm an old fashion check writing fool! So, your mortgage isn't due technically for an additional 15 days from the due date shown...do you pay that on time : )) I never understood that.."Due April 1...but if payment is not received by April 15th...pay this much" makes no sense!

haha, that was cute...thanks for sharing!! it sounds like the woman was pleasant - and that's always a plus (especially when everyone knows that property taxes means it's time to bend over, or sign something in blood... )

Cute story. I always mail mine the last day of the month so it gets there on the 1st. No waiting in line for me.

Not at all! I have so many bank accounts that I need a reasonable way to manage them all, so I use quicken and update daily. For my two main bank accounts (BofA and ING, mortgage with BofA) I usually log in and check things daily. You never know when someone inappropriate will get a hold of your info (happened to me before, and I'm very safe with my info - it was stolen from a company). So I'm quite comfortable. And, if BofA doesn't pay itself, I can just tell them its their own damn fault

Considering the price of gas, plus putting money in the meter, I mail mine. Tax office is too far away!
