I'm new and in need of help!
Hello everyone,
I am a 30 yr. old married woman with a 2 year old little girl. We are currently living in a lovely Brownstone in the West Village in NYC. We love it here, but we would like to move to a more "family" type community for our daughter. We are looking in CT., PA., NJ, RI, MASS, and Long Island and Westchester in NY.
My husband is a surgeon, and I am a kindergarten teacher, so as long as there are good hospitals and schools nearby, we are not very limited on where we go. Now, for what we are looking for:
- We want to be close to the beach, we are big beach people.
- A clean, safe neighborhood with a low crime rate and great public schools.
- A fun place to raise kids. ie; a nice library, maybe a nice neighborhood pool, community events, nice parks
- a fairly affluent community. We are not snooty people, but we would like to live in an upper middle to upper class neighborhood where people take good care of their homes and lawns, are well educated, and are involved in their community.
Is there anything that would fit the bill? TIA!

Well you won't find any beaches in PA - Even in "Jersey Shore, PA" : ) When you say beach...do you mean ocean beaches or lake beaches? Northern - North West NJ is the "Land of Lakes". We also have way too many hospitals and medical centers so hubby will do fine employment wise. NJ has it all...city (urban), country, surburbia, rural areas... If you could narrow down areas for us, maybe we can help you out : )

For NJ, I'm assuming you can handle a pretty big nut of a mortgage, so I'll recommend Rumson, Deal.

Thanks for the advice so far. Being from NY, and spending my summers out at Long Beach, we prefer ocean beaches. But we also know that southern Jersey is pretty far from NY, which is where our family is. So we would settle for lake beaches. We really like Bergen county. We like how close it is to NYC, and the towns seem to be beautiful. But if we see a great find in Southern Jersey, we would not rule it out! Anyone know anything about Colts Neck?

You may like Mountain Lakes in Morris County...very affluent lake community...club house, etc. I hear good things about Colts Neck but I really don't know much about that area.

Single Family Home - Metuchen, NJ, 08840 - Realtor.com
This house just went on sale on Metuchen. It's probably one of the most expensive houses in the area and on a fairly busy street.
However it looks like a great house. While Metuchen has a god deal of doctors, lawyers and other professionals, it also has a nice down-to-earth appeal. It is not fancy like Rumson or Mendham but a warm community. The Main Street is filled with really good restaurants and coffee houses.
The schools are great and your husband would be close to MANY hospitals: JFK, Robert Wood, St. Peter's, Rahway and more.
I understand that the house I gave you the link for is beautiful inside.

It really is a great town!!
I forgot to add you would be close to many major roadways: GSP, 287, 27,1 and the train station is within walking distance. It's the NE corridor maybe your husband wouldn't even need to change jobs.
