I have lived in 3 houses. 2 while growing up with basements then 13 years of rooming houses, shared bedrooms and apartments, and now I have my own house without a basement. I didnt think it was such a big deal when we bought the house but now I miss it terribly. If/When we sell our current house I will NOT buy another without a full basement and proper sized garage. Instead of the closet with a garage door I have now.
Does anybody know why some areas in Burilngton County has no basement?
I wondered if this was the area you were looking in. I come from North Jersey where basements are common, but here in Birlington County they are not as common.
For one, there are lakes or higher water tables depending on where you are. I'm in Browns Mills, Country Lakes and while we've never had water in our "service pit" (dug out area in our crawl space 7ft tall so you can stand), we do have a lake up the street. Depending on where you are in Country Lakes you may or may not have a basement. I'd actually wondered if some people built on the cheap.
A few years ago there was a huge flood in the Medford / Lumberton area where most of Main Street in Lumberton was under water. It was sickening to see all of the historic houses that looked like they were ruined. Some man made dams broke during a storm.
Basements are a must have. That is a full, finished basement. None of these half, no carpet basements. My first real home now has a furnished basement and thats where I do my work from home all day. I can play music as loud as I want, private, its all mine. I would never ever buy a home without a basement. No leaks, nothing.
