North Bergen, Union City, Kearny or Nutley?
Hello everyone. What an amazing forum to find out about NJ!! Okay, so for my situation. My wife and I are planning to make the move to one of these towns. We're looking for a condo within proximity of NYC which is quiet, safe and somewhat affordable.
We checked out Nutley, which seems like a great area, but higher condo price and taxes.
Can anyone give a pros/cons of North Bergen, Union City and Kearny? Also, which would you pick?
Thanks!!

Do you have kids? If so, I'd make the schools the top priority, and that'll take Union City and Kearny out of the running pretty fast. You've also got to look at the overall "feel" of the area as well- Union City is an extremely dense true "urban" area with a very high hispanic population (if that matters to you), while Nutley is somewhat more suburban. Kearny was always more of an "industrial" town that's just recently starting to see some growth as a desirable (to some, for whatever reason....lol) place to live, and North Bergen is somewhere between Nutley and Union City in density.
Also look at your commuting options to NYC- there are more options available to your from Union City and North Bergen than from the others areas.

Nutley, I suppose is ok..but its a very racist town (towards minorities). If you are o.k. with that..then I suppose Nutley would be your best choice. The others..NO WAY!!

Agree.....
Nutley, the furthest away from belleville the better-
Kearny, closer to North Arlington

In my opinion, Nutley may be your best bet overall, however in years to come Union City is probably a good bet with its proximity to NYC. Same with North Bergen. The working professionals who get priced out of Manhattan are starting to move to Jersey City, Hoboken as well as some other areas, such as Montclair. Its just a matter of time until Union City and North Bergen go through this change as well.

Kearny and Nutley are cheaper than North Bergen and Union City.. I think North Bergen it's close to city and not as crowded like Union City..By the way Troy Towers in Union City has beautiful condo's with Manhattan view for reasonable prices..

Can you elaborate on this? I am planning to move to Nutley too. As a minority myself, I definitely would prefer a friendly town.
