I'm also moving out of New Jersey this month and will miss some of the better things. Unfortunately we're heading to Los Angeles. Which maybe worse in some ways!
Although it's hard to imagine being taxed MORE than NJ.

I moved out of NJ to SC about 4 year ago. I miss everything about NJ, the good people, the food, DOWN THE SHORE, NYC OVER THE HUDSON RIVER, THE HUSSLE AND BUSSLE. There was also alot more to do there also. I cannot stand the southern accent, it drives me up a wall. If I won the lottery I would move BACK TO JERSEY!
GOOD LUCK MY FELLOW New JerseyanS!

To everyone thinking of moving here, it's a great state and if you decide to give it a try, good luck and I'm sure you'll love it.
To everyone that already lives here, I'll miss you and I hope to visit often.

My husband may have a job lined up at the Naval Air Station in Lakehurst. Any housing recommendations? We're a family of 4 and rooted outside San Diego.

At this point we're thinking of looking for a rental for him before we seriousely consider moving the entire family. Appreciate any recommendations for rental areas (or those to avoid)...

We are moving out of Jersey too. My husband works for Fort Monmouth and since it is closing he had to get a job in APG Md, so we are moving to Delaware. I am excited about the prices, but I am really going to miss it here. There is just so much to do. I am not a huge beach person, but it is nice to know it is so close.

We'll be retiring to Florida soon, hopefully by the end of the year.
I'll miss all of the above, plus the ability to walk out of my house and, after taking public transportation (Light Rail-PATH-4 train) be in Yankee Stadium in less than 90 minutes (in 75 minutes, if I make the connections right). I'll miss Costco (none in Marion County, FL), Bare Escentuals boutiques, and local sports-talk radio in the car.

Rapture, good luck, and cheer up. I'll be out of NJ in about a month, also to SC, but inland. Other than some good friends, I don't foresee missing much. NJ can be a great place to live, but it's not worth the price anymore. There are greener pastures. (Far less expensive with better weather too.)

Update
Wow, I can't believe this thread was revived! Thanks Brian for saying that. It has been 2.5 years since I moved and although there are many nice things about living here in SC I would move back if I could afford it. At the same time when I think about the property tax in NJ it reminds me of why I left to begin with. Like I said a couple years ago on here, it's like the state is shaking everyone down and getting away with it. I just can't pay that tax without it bothering me to the point it would probably eat at me that I would feel ripped off. I do miss the things that I thought I would miss and more. I don't want to speak badly of SC, especially because I've only been in this one area. I'll just say the south and the north are VERY different and for anyone looking to move south, please do a lot of research and try to visit as much as possible. Now for me it may be because I'm very different than the south. I don't eat meat, I'm not religious, I lean to the left, I'm a huge animal lover and I can't stand country music. I'm not putting anyone down, it's just different and someone else from NJ may fit into all of this more than me. Don't get me wrong, no one here is forcing me to eat meat or go to church but pretty much everyone hunts, people tie their dogs up outside or at least leave them outside ( I can't relate to that at all) and all my neighbors go to church 3 to 4 times a week. The other thing that's very different is everyone is friendly and some are genuine but I noticed that some are also fake. In NJ if someone doesn't like you or just doesn't want to bother with you, they're not friendly so you know it. Down here I've had people act like they are my friends but turn out to be very phoney.
In a nut shell...let's admit some of the stereotypes about NJ are true, well the same goes for down here. So if people around the country think NJ is full if mafia or guido Italians of course that's not true but yes there are a lot of them. If people think there are all rednecks in SC/NC, yes there are a lot of them too but it's not everyone.
Good things here, IMO; low taxes, great weather, really nice trees and nature.
Bad things here, IMO; if you have kids the schools have bad reputations, country music everywhere I go and limited choices of music, a lot of people treat their pets badly, almost no cultural things to do (where I live), low paying jobs (very low), beaches are nicer in NJ but the water is cleaner here, lots and lots of bugs - I call them Jurassic Park bugs because they are huge, not knowing if people are genuine.
I use to live in Monmouth County, which is great! I don't know that I would move back to some other areas of NJ but I would move back to MC in a second. If anyone in NJ is considering moving to the Myrtle Beach area and has questions, let me know. You can send it in a DM because I don't want to turn a thread in NJ into a thread about SC.
