Has anyone done Radon testing in Middlesex NJ, specifically Edison? I dont see many mitigation fans in my complex but since I spend a lot of time in the basement (finished) of my rental home, I am wondering if people have got their basements tested? If so, what are the levels you got?
I am thinking of getting it tested using a short term test. But I would help comfort me if you share any info you have. You dont have to give me the exact location. Just the town is good enough.
We just did as part of our home purchase. All went well thankfully. My wife previously owned a home in Edison with her ex and recounts a terrible experience with the radon test during that purchase. They ended up needing a mitigation system.
The OP should be aware that no two houses on the same street are necessarily going to have the same level of Radon intrusion. I tested my basement air about 22 years ago, and found it to have a low level of Radon. My next door neighbor tested his basement air, and his results were Radon-free. Even though the potential for a Radon problem is most likely in NW NJ, in the region of The Reading Prong, it has been found to some extent throughout the state:
I'm not an expert by any means, but I do believe that the system involves fans.
Indeed it does.
I am lucky that the local construction codes require that the entire radon mitigation system--sans fan--be installed when a new home is built, just in case a radon problem arises. After the air in my basement tested positive for radon, all that the Radon Mitigation company had to do was to install the fan--in the attic--on the existing radon exhaust pipe that runs from the basement, up through the roof.
They also installed a meter on the exhaust pipe in the basement, so that I could see at a glance if it was still "pulling a vacuum". Twenty+ years later, it is still running and working properly.
