No, in NJ they either let you continue the previous inspection if the car is used,
OR if the car is new the dealer gives you a 5 year sticker
OR you get that pink rectangular card which gives you several weeks to inspect.

You can go to any DMV in NJ, it doesn't have to be in your county. As I said, look at the list I posted, I'll put it below. You need to go to 2 different places.

For your car stuff, you'll have to look on this list to see what town is closest. I guess it would be South Brunswick if Edison is closest to you.

I've never been to Vineland even though it's not far from me. I thought you were in North Jersey? Vineland can be a long haul, even from where I live depending on where it is. Vineland has been one of those towns where both my GPS and Google maps have both given me bad directions lol
I wonder if ocnjgirl has been there.

They're never right on mine either. If I go to Home Depot site for instance, it will say "Your store (town 60 miles away) and I have to change the zip code.

Update: I Went to the NJ DMV and had the following to switch my MA license:
1. Birth Certificate
2. Real MA ID
3. Social Security Card
4. Passport
5. Utility Bill with address
6. Bank Statement with address
7. Credit Card Statement with address
8. 1040, 1099, and 1090 from 2020. A W2 too from where I worked.
9. 3 paystubs
10. A credit/debit card signed.
11. Health Insurance Card and Mail from Health Insurance
THey told me to get lost. I've never had a worse experience. The DMV sucks here... WHAT AM I MISSING?!??!?!

Yes, the old DMV was really bad. Luckily, the MVC is much improved over the DMV.
However, I can't explain the difficulty that you experienced. I presented only a fraction of the documentation that you gave them, and I had no problem getting my new license a few years ago.
Did you ask them what type of documentation you lacked?
