Theoretically it shouldn’t be...it just has the sauce on top instead of on the bottom. But I’ve seen that go awry before, so I’m gonna chalk that up (hopefully) to some wannabes not making it properly.

Funny thing about living in the northeast: one can be unaware of something that's not very far away from them. New Haven isn't very far from Northern NJ. I think you should make a day trip out of going there and trying these three places. They are very special. You mention Kinchley's in Ramsey. That's not very far from New Haven. The Merritt Parkway is a beautiful drive, especially during the fall.
until there is an accident on it. There is no escape. I do agree New Haven pizza is top notch....I was eating pizza at Brother's in Red Bank NJ a couple weeks ago...

Is it good? I pass by it all the time. The only thing I know about the place is that my friend's ex-husband liked to hang out there and he's on his third DWI. I was under the impression it was more a dive bar that happened to have some food, but my view could be skewed based on the limited knowledge above.

Top two on the Shore , Vic's in Bradley Beach , Pete and Elda's/Carmine Pizza in Neptune

A good runner up is Squan Tavern in Manasquan.

I've heard of Pete and Elda's. Think I even may have passed it. I had to go to Neptune a few times for a doctor's appointment.

I had forgotten about Sal's. Yes, that one was absolutely first-rate when I ate there many years ago.

Yeah, I've heard of it, but don't know a lot of these places. I only moved down this way about ten years ago, and I'm single and live alone so these aren't places I've had a chance or an inclination to visit. They aren't establishments an older single woman is likely to wander into by herself and plop down and order a meal.

I don't mind going out to eat alone locally, but I'm not inclined to take a ride to some well-known popular establishment to sit alone and eat and talk to myself. LOL.
