Default How is Illegal Immigration in NJ?

I'm curious if you guys are also being invaded by illegals in New Jersey. The situation is terrible down here in Southern California. We have many foreign gangs, and drugs infiltrating our communities through gaps in the border.

Spanish is everywhere! They[illegals] are driving down our quality of life. They are driving down wages. Traffic is becoming ridiculous, as they squeeze 5, 6, 7 illegals into tiny 1BR apartments! Many have to park on lawns, or end up making street parking very crowded... The estimated cost to taxpayers, Lou Dobbs said is over $70 billion per year.

Our hospitals and schools are crowded and failing. The rich are becoming richer by paying the poor less. The LATimes reported that the gap between the rich and the poor in Los Angeles is greator than any other city in America. It's sad what is happening to America.

Default messed up world

illegals are a problem in poor areas of nj. but if people didn't hire them, they wouldn't be a problem. i don't mind if people speak spanish though, look at switzerland, they speak three languages. remember that it is the poor hispanics that come here to find work not the wealthy educated hispanics who could probably come here legally if they wanted. these illegals do work that americans don't want to do. if people complained that they weren't hired for jobs that illegals got or if business owners got into trouble for hiring illegals, then they wouldn't come. they only come because there are jobs for them. they are exploited here but it is better than in their own countries. the gap between rich and poor is increasing due to globalization much more so than illegal immigrants. customer service outsourced to india. manufacturing to china. the middle class is disappearing in america. it is becoming more like a third world nation with the super rich and super poor. instead of focusing on illegal immigrants and the problems they cause, realize that americans have a lot in common with these people... scary thought but true. do you think they like the situation they are in? i doubt it. due to high cost of living here many americans are moving to mexico, panama, etc. costa rica is so expensive now. this is done legally of course, because american retirees can't afford america.

Default don't want to do

is what i said, like being a busboy, for instance. i don't have the answers, but i can think about things a bit. you have a good question though. in nyc for instance you see a lot of illegals as busboys and clean up people at restaurants and also working for contractors. I think what I said holds true for the former (i guess i am too young, always saw immigrants not sure legal or illegal as busboys so cant answer your question), but not so much the latter. But how can we make it change? ins does not care about illegal construction people. i am sure a general contractor would hire one of them off the books over an american they have to give more to. that does suck for the american who didn't get the job. but if laws aren't enforced they are useless. you try calling the ins over your contractor using an illegal immigrant. they will just laugh at you and say so what.

I know many Amigos from Asian Food Center my brother took us to at Edison, and I had nothing to do so chat with them a bit "Donte Vive?" Surprisingly they lived around Asian Food Center, none of them have car; they walk to work. So, the accusation of creating traffic may not valid.

Not sure if they drive down the quality of life, but my brother said, because of their hard work, the food in Asian Food Center is much cheaper than in supermarket like ShopRite or Stop and Shops. e.g. a 18 pack eggs he got at ShopRite was $3.69 the other day, and at Asian Food Center is only $1.50; what a difference! So you can save money on grocery to improve living quality, I guess.

Besides, we went to Newark Museum and surprisingly to find out the there were huge population of amigos in town, of course, most people walk and take bus, the traffic there is not that heavy, I guess it would be very heavy when Americans drive to work during weekdays ...

Not sure how your $70 Billion came from, but you should compare the tax dollars going to war ... As a tax payer, I feel good to use tax dollars to expand road and build schools, but not sure if it makes sense to waste in war; I got two side of Americans trying to convince me. So I told those support war to make more donation to the government for war spending and the other side to make more donation to museums, charities...

My brother's friend used to have an Amigo neighbor, they took all family back to Peru for health check up, and seeing dentist because it is too expensive here in the US to afford. Same thing as many Chinese immigrants they don't see dentish or doctor here, they will visit dentist when they go back Shanghi or Beijing during summer vacation ... So, how do they use up American's hospital services?

New Jersey just increased the minimum wage to $7.15 ? So how would rich boss pay less the wage? That is not true here in NJ either ... May be NJ is much more reasonable place for immigrant?

The only immigrants or foreigners that drive down the wage is probably IT consultants from abroad, according to my brother, working at Goldman. Goldman Schas used to be willing to pay $100 an hour, but no longer, at 85 Broad St where he work, on 2nd floor, over 80% colleagues are Indian consultants getting paid around $60,000, i.e. $30 an hour ... and everyone drive and buy car, some even buy two cars ... so, do you think they congeste the American roads? Well, then you should talk to CEO or CIO of Goldman Sachs ...

This is very true, when I was at Costa Rica, I met many American retirees getting SSI check each month from US Goverment and live there like a king! The nice big house that may cost $600,000 here cost only $30,000 there!

The correct way for American here in NJ is to start their own business, and hire immgrants that way their cost will be lower and competitive, and as American boss, you will make lots of money, and as immigrants you will have legal status and chance to have your American dream come true.

My brother has a neighbor Greg who divorce twice and with a girl friend (i.e. need to support THREE families) always had problem to make enough money although he will charge $1,700 to paint a 1br condo (amigo charges $400, and may are singles) So, my brother suggest Greg to be a boss and hiring immigrants to work, and he focus on business development. He has been very successful.

So, as long as you are "white" or close to white and grown up here, you looks like "boss", so you need to own a business and look like a boss, NOT trying to do dirty work, why fighting for those dirty works? Immigrants do that because they do not know English, and your English is perfect!

Even this old American guy, I think he is very smart, he has his one man Washer/Dryer repair company and his van, so he is independent, people calling his company, his cell phone will ring, and he hire noby. But he will charge $75 visit fee and another $75 for dianostic. But, he often advise his client to buy NEW washer/dryer. He will say, "it would cost you $400 to repair labor and parts, it would be making more sense to buy a new one from Lowes or HomeDepot", and at the end, he will just charge $75 visit fee and diagnostic fee that he will wave if you want him to repair ... everyone wants a new one ... So, he is provide "consulting" and charge "consulting fee".

Also, don't think Spanish speaking people are all poor here... According to World Journal, the largest Chinese Newspaper in the US, Spanish speaking people and immigrant in general has become the a major buying force of New Jersey ... Check out UniCasa (casa is home in Spanish) realtor office to see if they have over 30 buyers each week ...

My brother has friend Robert who lost his IT job at AT&T to Indian consultants, so he decided to be realtor, now he is very successful realtor in Princton area selling lots of house to Indian IT consultants ...

So, the conclusion is that find out your "edge" (being American is already very advantage, you got citizenship for FREE! you speak English perfect, and you know the system very well), so knowing all your edge, and you think you want to be the boss of America. You should start your own company, as small as one man plumbing company, (Oh! I forgot to mention my brother's black neighbor Andy who drove Mercedez Bens) like Andy who make lots of money from immigrant homeowners who knows NOTHING about A/C. He once came to my brother's condo that tenant report no A/C. He got it repaired in 3 minutes and charge $50! Everyone now all call Andy to repair their A/C and made him a fortune. But if you are American, you know it is common sense that just "circuit breaker jump off...)

Americans will do any job if it pays good. It comes down to corporations making bigger bucks. It's greed. This isn't about businesses staying afloat. It's about profit. Illegals missed the US industrial age by about a hundred years. In five years, most of their jobs could be outsourced. Who is going to pay for their welfare? Who's going to pay their medical bills?

I don't know why most on this thread[cheng specifically] is talking about other nonsense like homes in Panama, Latinos buying real estate, and financial advice. Wake up man we're being invaded. Our schools systems are getting slammed!

The last four words explain a complete collapse of menial job infrastructure if Latinos are pulled out of the equation. The cost of living is ridiculous, who wants to be a cook in a 100 kitchen, or do physically draining Construction for 8 hours a day, and go home sore as a rock, not to mention the terrible wage ratio to living expense.

I think it's all BS and all about the greed. Look at Japan, one of the fastest shrinking labor forces in the world with low immigration, I don't see them . This country is being sold out. Those in power here, have global ambitions way past the interests of common americans. Sad thing is, it's probably to late already. The illegals are having children who are automatic citizens and make up 10% of all births in this country. WTF

You asked about illegal immigration in NJ. Simply put, it's alive and well and given the nature of who we elect in this state, it will never go away. It will only get better (so to speak).
