Default Moving to Lake Hopatcong area?

Hello All,

I am planning to move to Lake Hopatcong area which is near to my work. Will be renting apartment on RT 15 S, Jefferson Ridge. Appreciate any feedback on this. Also, how is the commute to 80 from there? Its around 4 miles from 80. How about things like grocery shopping, parks, social life etc..?

Thanks

TO I80? 8 mins (15 mins at certain times) Rt 15 is a main road going toward Sparta and can get very heavy.

Its around 4 miles from 80. How about things like grocery shopping,

Pathmark is almost across the street. 2nd "best" prices for groceries behind Shoprite. I put "best" in quotes because grocery prices in NJ are horrid. About 1x every 2 mos we need enough groceries we pack up two kids and drive 25 miles to Milford PA Walmart Super Center. Yes we save that much vs NJ grocery prices.

Rockaway mall, Target, Shoprite, Walmart are 10 to 15 mins away.

parks,

Allamuchy State Park is 20 mins west. DWG is 40 mins west. Several BIG parks north.

social life etc

What is this "?social life?" thing of which you speak? Perhaps I dont understand beause Im married and have 2 kids. Maybe Im not allowed to have one of these.

Default Thanks ottomobeale

Thanks much for the reply. Can you please elaborate on following points in your reply. "Realize you are light years from Newark". Is it really safe, I am also with the family so thats my first concern.

Also want to ask few more things and appreciate the response..

"How about school system, any good preschool nearby?"

parks,

Allamuchy State Park is 20 mins west. DWG is 40 mins west. Several BIG parks north.

"Any small parks nearby you know just for the small walk or may be playground for kids?"

How about the hospitals and doctors? I know there is one good hospital in Dover forget the name.

I once called Newark hell... The devil called the next day to complain about the unfair comparison. 4 kids were shot in a playground last year... Just random killing. NOTHING in Morris or Sussex county is as bad as Newark. When I lived in Florida crime was everywhere but the worst of the worst was less. That is. It was like a wet blanket over the entire state including expensive neighborhoods. In NJ the worst of the worst is truly the worst… It is more concentrated. Outlying areas like Hopat and Sussex Co are much much better.

>"Any small parks nearby you know just for the small walk or may be playground for kids?"<

Sorry. I live in Ogdensburg 13 mi from you. No idea on the small parks nearby. Sparta has a nice one but its 10 mi away from you.

How about the hospitals and doctors? I know there is one good hospital in Dover forget the name.

Hospitals… I dunno except I hear they are all outsourcing things like radiology and lab work so they are not covered by health insurance price contracts or “get sent to the wrong lab” so you get a nice overpriced bill.

Doctors. Dr Bonnet at Skylands Medical is mine. I like him. The wife doesn’t. Hes on Edison road like 2 mi from you.

I live in Lk Hopatcong.

Those apartments are fairly new, you do have a washer & dryer a 2 bedroom runs about $1600.00 a month. They are fairly close to Rt 15 so small kids would need supervision when playing outside. You also may hear the traffic on 15

There is an extended family of Roma gypsies that have made their summer home in Lk Hopatcong for years, a few of them live in those apartments a few may be here year round now, that said they don't bother anyone and once you gain their trust they are pretty ok...I'm waiting for the one elder to return from Hilton Head, he's a hoot and I enjoy talking to him.

Schools are so so not to bad but could be better especially the high school..
DO NOT leave your doors unlocked or lower level windows open and unlocked..that goes for your car as well, lock it...we have been plagued lately with a lot of break ins
Homes during the day and cars in the wee hours..it's the local druggie kids

Hospitals..St Clare's in denville or Morristown Memorial
Dr Bonnet was good at one time but his practice has evolved into big business...
We switched to Dr Leggerio in Budd Lake a bit of a ride but worth it

You have Pathmark which is basically a glorified bodega
Shop Rite in Wharton with Costco across the street
BJ's in Mt Arlington

Social Life: You have the Thirsty Moose down the road, gatwyn's, mcKenna's ..the Jeff house in the summer is nice
There is a dart league and I believe still a pool league through the local bars...bowling in Dover & Sparta I believe they have leagues as well..define what your social life is and I'll try & answer if we have it

Ask away..I've lived here over 20 years

Welcome to the lake

Hopatcong is not Lake Hopatcong...Hopatcong is the other side of the lake in Sussex County. Lake Hopatcong where o/p is thinking of moving is in Jefferson Twp in Morris County
