Oh, it does. Our food is pretty good in Michigan, too, and despite my mom being born/raised in GA - she adapted to MI living/food (short of the cold/winter ) - so we eat a lot of food that they make in MI. They quality of ingredients just aren't as good .
Every time I come to NJ, I eat like there's no tomorrow (I usually eat breakfast/dinner, as I'm having too much fun, and am too busy for lunch), and surprisingly, I lose weight while in NJ. I ONLY blame that on the fact that I'm constantly moving around/outside. As I've said in another thread, if it weren't for that, I'd have to roll myself back to FL, as it would be the only way I'd be able to get back!

Well, it does keep the lower paid riff-raff from moving in to a lot of towns.

I see this as a great thing! You dont like eating out because the food sucks. Therefore, you cook more at home. As a result, you end up eating healthier meals. It's good trade off.

I'm also in Cherry Hill. Paid 250k in 2004 for 3 bed/1.5 bath 1500 s.f. home on a 9375 s.f. lot. Taxes are currently 5800$ a year.

I got an estate sale. It needs lots of work (cosmetically) but it is on a great street in the Erlton section on a dead-end street. As I said before, our house is the ugliest on the block (But not for long)

For me, I've got a 2BR/1BA home, about 1600sq ft living space, .13 acre lot, $5900/yr, out here in Hunterdon County. Home cost me $172,500, a recent look (Sunday) by a neighbor realtor puts me at about $220k, more once I finish with the kitchen, exterior work, landscaping.
Taxes are likely to go up a bit next year, though this may be offset by a deal being discussed in the town regarding the dam. The only thing I'm *not* happy about is that there isn't any grass pickup... fortunately, my lawnmower is a 3-in-1... but I can't find the plastic piece (mower was free from gf's dad).
UPDATE - Just found the piece for $9!

They are high - Hunterdon County is high in general, and High Bridge isn't low in taxes either...
But its got a good balance between home price and taxes, so its ok by me. Much of the large tax base is actually temporary - some hundreds of acres purchased as preserved green acres property, primarily done to prevent overdevelopment. Once of those properties is now the golf course, which is pretty much paying for itself, and once its fully paid off, will be raking in some nice supplemental cash for the town.
I'm ok with it. Helps me out a bit come income tax time

Yup. But the fact is, high four / low five figure tax bills keeps many folks out of many areas.
